Well, I'm surprised the experts didn't chime in on this issue!!!

My experience was a nightmare I use Sunoco 87 Octane.... Had a spell where I did not run my bike for quite sometime due to the crappy schedule I have(Third Shift) Need I say more.....

Started having backfire, rough idle, stalling ect,ect,ect...
Had the bike towed to the shop and here is what I found out.....

Had the carb cleaned, and was informed that due to the Ethanol in the fuel,, it Gum's up the carb...
Had more than one person tell me this...."Another Customer"
U have to run them for one, at least once a week...Otherwise you'll
be back soon

Second, I use Sea Foam!!!!! Put in four ounces per full tank, every other tank....Run the crap out of it once a week.... Did have a "voop" out the tail pipe but cured that after a good run and lowered the idle(No Tach)....

As of this note,,, I've had "zero" problem since doing this Lesson Learned!!!!

My 2 Cents!!!

Yup,todays fuel can start going bad in as little as 30days (depending on storrage cond and ventine on fuel tank-system) without a fuel stailizer like /seafoam or marine grade (not std red colored sta-bil-too weak even in newer formula for safe storrage) Sta-Bil which i run in every tank of full in my motorcycles and mower.

The more air that the fuel is exposes to along more temp changes the fater it will go bad.

The new StarTron blue colored stabilizer is supposed to be good too but i have heard stories good & bad about it but have also heard the same about Sta-bil Marine grade too that i have been using with no issues at all, ever.

I think where people get into trouble when treat fuel and it still goes bad is that they are not always staring out with fresh fuel. The fuel they are treating may have already been sitting for a while already starting too or already bad and they dont realize it and jus treat it and let ib be in a vehicle that often sits with non use.

I say this because for example when i asked a few people here in RSC questions about how long the fuel was sitting in their bikes before it went bad with stabilizer in it they didnt say they started with fresh fuel. They would say they werent sure maybe 3 maybe 4 months or more before they treated it and it can already be past te point of no return in some cases.

Then theres the other case,my friend has a 75 vette he filled up over 12 months ago and stored without any fuel stailier,i thought he would be SOL foir sure.

that thing fired right up and racn fine ,i think that fuel syste/tanks is a very tight closed system and als it was stored in a place that doest seen lrg temp swings either. But thats not the norm & most times you could not get away with doing that when using todays pump fuel.

Other issue is some people also dont realize you must run the motor for a while post treating with any stabilizer to get the treated fuel intocarb and all its metering circuts which they overlook or just dont let the motor runn loonge enough to get it done correctly.

How long to run motor post treating with fuel stailizer totally depends on how long fuel line is between tank and carb and also how fast the motor is using fuel which also depends on how fats it running when you fire it up post treating the fuel to get treated fuel into the carb.
