Opps .... time to redo tank graphics 2 Years, 1 Month ago
I was in the garage mocking up my hard bags. I wanted to be sure that the bag was lined up properly from the back so I placed a couple of 2 x 4's under the kickstand to get it as vertical as possible without it falling over.

I got the bike up, aligned the bag as I want and then took the bag off and placed it beside me. I then went to the back to look at the alignment of the bag support .... and watched my bike slowly fall to the ground.

I'm stood there shocked watching gas leak out the top of my gas cap, then walked over and picked it up.

Usually there would be no damage as the FC's do a good job of stopping the tank from hitting the ground but ... the hard bag was beside the tank and the tank hit the bag causing a couple of small creases.

Luckily I bought another tank (now was 2 spares ), so I do have replacements but I also wanted to redo the graphics on this tank. I think the design I have in mind is within the perimeter of where the damage is so I won't have to re-spray the whole tank ... but still .... I have enough to do without this extra unforseen work.

Now that just sux! I had that happen to me a while back... I had the kickstand on a board to set it up straighter... did what I had to do... then let the air out of the air ride... after it hit bottom... It was like slow motion, the bike started going all the way over... I got lucky and grabbed it after it landed on the engine guard...

Sorry to hear this Doc, looks like it may have dented it as well....... I usually sling a rope over the shed rafters and tie off to the neck just for this reason....good luck..

Yes ... the air ride was the problem.

I've been doing this for years but with the air ride the height of the bike changes so probably had it lower that with the stock suspension.

I seem to be partial to learing stuff the hard way ..

Yes .. it's dented a bit but I won't be able to pull it out .. it's not pushed in but creased from the hard edge on the bag. It will need a little bit of filler.

If it was just scrathed then I could have buffed it out.

So that makes three ride casualties. No wonder they call it 'Tricky' Air. How fortunate I was that I could not afford it.

I hate it when a crisis pushes me into doing what i was going to do anyway...... at the least convenient time.

I think we are as sick about it as you Doc........ ewww I should have waited to read thins until after my coffee.

Lesson learned for rest of us though, tie it off too. (you got the test first....read my tag line.)

In the process .... If I had left it alone I won't have to redo jobs.
