Had gas leak...assistance.. 2 Years ago
Hi,

In the attached pic, can you tell me what that piece is? I recently got stranded on the interstate after my bike leaked the gas out of the tube connected to the end of this piece. I was luckily able to get to the tube and push it back on the end of this piece. I figure maybe a clamp came off of the tube which allowed it to rattle loose and leak gas. Does this sound correct? Any ideas where to find a clamp small enough to fit this tube, like a pinch clamp?
Wes

that is the idle screw adjuster - no gas leaks outa that , the gas was prob leaking from else were (overflow most likely)

this is the right side of the bike...that piece in the previous pics sits below the large chrome piece. The black knob doesn't turn at all, which I thought it would, and connected to the end of the black knob is a small black rubber hose...and that is where the gas leaked from...cause as I tried to restart, my wife watched the gas come out of that hose, which was loose. We got that hose back on and no more gas leak, but I'm afraid it will come off again without some type of clamp. Maybe I was seeing things, but I'm pretty sure of it. Roadstar 2005 1700 series...thanks for the input though.

that for sure is the idle knob - turn harder.. (idle will go up or down when you turn this depending on direction) - doesnt even mount inside carb - sits on the outside, so there is no way for gas to leak outa it.

if you are talking about #21 on this picture, then you have a stuck float or needle seat or the carb is boiling over.. which is my guess and its leaking down the adjustment cable. pull the air cleaner off and you'll see whats going on. its only a few bolts to remove it.

That is the idle adjsutment knob, under the big chrome thing the air filter housing. The knob is connected to a cable it is not a tube, and the cable will turn the idle adjustment it feels like it is not doing much, but you will see that with the engine running the idle will change. You will get gas leaking, or running from the float bowl over flow tube, the short rubber tube bent in a 90 degree angle. With the air filter housing in place it might appear that gas was leaking from the cable of the idle adjuster, but that would not be possible as there is no gas where it connects to the carb
