The last thing you want to do is exert too much force while turning the key.......been there seen that done that....a bent key or worse............like snaping it off in the ignition switch....let the good times rollllllllllllllllllllllllllllll...

My '99 did that. Wound up replacing the seat latch. Make sure you lube the cable when you get it fixed.

Yup, another good reminder to lube the catch. Dont forget to lube the kickstand with WD too. Went to park the scoot once and too my surprise the stand would not come down w/o some prodding. Put me in a bind... sorry could not resist.
