Transfer case oil 2 Years ago
Transfer case gear oil............. I want to change it out since I bought my RS Silverado from the first owner who had the dealer do all his work...... I do not use a synthetic oil for my engine (as Mobile 1) which I'm putting off as I been using Valveoline 20w-50 which for me is fine. BUT, I want to change my gear case oil and I want to know what viscosity range do YOU all use in Mobile ! ?

I too have been running Valvoline 20w50 dino lube in my engine. Seems to be working for me. As for the primary, I've been using a synthetic 75w90 with no issues or problems.

75w90 is the recommended viscosity. I use RP without any issues.

Since I'm puttiing less than 4k miles per year on my bike, I'm using Valvoline 20W-50 4 Stroke MC engine oil also.
I changed my transfer case oil last month to Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube LS 75W-90. I figured that by using the Mobil 1 in the transfer case that I wouldn't have to change it again for a very long time. The Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube was $8.99 at O'Reilly's. You may find it cheaper somewhere else.
Good luck!

I had info posted on this, Try here I looked hard on the subject and decided on RP there is some confusing info on the requirements that defy oil logic, mentioned in the link, if it works. It does not for me but I am using a Phone as a modem so.......... picture heavy.

Ok, I'm going to have to ask... the transfer case oil change: how much oil, what weight? and the drain and filler locations...........looking through the forum both in Maint. and 'Tech articles' I didn't seem to find anything with instructional pics. or anything more than refferences to 'the oil types' Can you guys dirrect me to somewhere where I can get some specifications on lubrication of the Roadstar. Sorry to bother you's, I didn't get a bike manual with this bike. Next stop, Advanced Auto for oil, and ebay for a manual. Rich

Re:Transfer case oil 2 Years ago
The Mobil 1 gear oil works just fine and the quantity is 13.44 oz. The drain is on the bottom, the big round side plug is the filler, and beneath, on the side, is the inspection plug to which you will fill it up to. I don't pull that plug because I measured how much I would put in, but if you don't want to bother to measure, fill 'til it's weeping out the inspection plug hole. Once done... it really doesn't need to be looked at again for a long time. Maybe you'd want to change it every 10k just to feel good about yourself. For me, that would be every 3 or 4 years.
