No matter how big a carb you put on these bikes or how big an air filter the stock engine is only going to suck just the amount of air and fuel it needs and no more. To make good use of a 42 or 45 you will need to do some real internal work on the engine. The stock carb will take care of any needs the engine has plus some.

Just for the HSR42 club

2 newly added videos....

Video http://youtu.be/z0M-U-Q8jrU ( Perfomance drive-by )

Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HHz0xl8tSI ( walk around )

got bored the other day and fabricated a header pipe to 2 into 1 "Thunderheader" exhaust system, had to cut 11 inches off the Thunderheader muffler tube and 6 inches off the heat shield, way too long for our needs and staying within the header pipe to muffler length and size ratio,

After all the fabricating and welding got it mounted yesterday and we performed a test run on Oct. 18, 2011 outside temp is 42 degrees but sunny...

also forgot to make mention these fast take offs are thru a 1/4 mile stretch, it is what it is.......

Be Safe...

Samson

I have a question about needle clip settings . My 42 has a nylon and a mettle washer under the clip on 3 groove. should both washers be used ?

No you don't need both all you need is the white plastic washer. Only use the silver washer if you want to go a half a step between slits for example 3.5 rather than 3 or 4.

There should not be any metal washers on a 42 needle. the needle is not set-up for half steps, because of the way the needle is locked in place. The extra washer, will cause the holder to bend, so if you remove it (washer)the holder will not hold the way it was meant to. Don't ask how I know. LOL

Bought an innovate wide band LM-1 over a year ago, got real busy figure to run Curt's jetting or as close I finally installed the Hyper-Charger, several weeks later we welded the CO/2 bung in the Thunderheader 2 into 1 collector this afternoon, after 2 different main installs we ended with the mikuni mainjet. Pump Nozzle #60 -#170-MJ #25-PJ Fuel Needle #97 - e-clip on 2nd PMS 1.75

Idleing at 12:8 -13:2

Mid-range at 13:5 (cruise)

W.O.T 12:8

were done...setting up the A.F.R. !

I knew you would like the AFR meter Isn't it amazing to see what your options are thru the ranges and how much the AFR is changing in each gear? How did you like the ease of setting the PMS I run mine all the time it's installed in the fairing. Just kinda cool to be able keep an eye on it.

So you are going lean. Your cruise is rich. Cruise can be anything between 14:1 to 15.8:1. I would expect 3/4 throttle or higher you should be nearing 13:1 ending around 12.3:1 wide open, for optimum power. I have a couple wbs I may throw one on the bike for a bit.

wow, can't believe you are that lean at 3/4 throttle with a 182.5. I have a 162.5 and 2 points richer. Are you using the filters butterfly's? That could account for bigger jetting.

have you read this article on AFR:
