wow do I need some more help 1 Year, 11 Months ago
anybody have electric troubleshooting for a 2005? the manual is not for an 05 and I have blown the main relay for the second time and I am baffled why.
I had at long last gotten everythign together and bike was cranking but not firing, then after a bit....nothing. I have power everywhere (lights etc) but not up to start switch, went down to relay and it looks like its shorted.
suggestions?

Oh, I do have the right wiring schematic/diagram but all the troubleshooting in the manual is for the 1600's and they did not update it in the supplement I have.

so right now I am

the supplement has no troubleshooting.

It does have the correct wiring diagram which I already have.

specifically the relay's are very different......

oh... nm me then hehe

could chase the wires and see if its something basic - ie wire split and shorting out.

What make you think you blew the relay? Which relay, the one under the left side (starter relay) or under the right side cover (relay) which connect to a lot of the safety switches. Are you blowing the main fuse (30amp) on the relay, don't know how you determined it blown (shorted?) but across certain pins it will be low ohm if you are going across the coils of the internal relays inside the unit.

right side relay. No fuses blown. I have power to relay but nothing coming out of it. I tested between the two pins that should have continuity and they dont (according to the manual least wise).
BUT I need to know why I blew it this time since it appears to ahve happened while I was cranking (but not starting). I'm beginning to suspect the ignitor unit.

oh yeah checked that first thing.
No juice up to start switch, next thing down stream is the relay.
Juice to relay but not back up to switch means bad relay I'm thinking. I tested this at the relay. I am going back and running down every switch that goes to that relay but it looks like its blown. Just tested it again and it show continuity either way I test it and it isnt supposed to.

a lot to that relay are grounding wires too, they complete the ckt to ground. not all the wires from the key switch are hot (+ bat.volt) they are grounds too, unfortunately they are not clear on the schematic. so it can get confusing. I know one guy just had an issue with a ground wire, and I think that is why he got the bike real cheap as well, bike had a custom key switch, but guess previous owner failed to ground the blue/black wire, so no start, connected to ground, bike started, that wire completed the ckt to ignition module

yup actually only two wires ahve juice going to them at the relay it seems.

i checked and there is power to the emergency shutoff switch but nothing getting to the start button.

I forgot one more thing, much more important than this....you find some work? Sure hope so I know how it feels believe me.
