I put on a new rear tire the start of this year and instead of using weights, tried balancing beads. Since taking it out this year I've notice a slight unsteadiness (wobble) at highway speeds which increased as I increased my speed, which I attributed to the rear tire (last thing changed ... right).
So for the last few of weeks I've been trying to chase down the cause of this wobble by ...
- checking/rechecking the rear tire
- looking at the front tire .... about 50% worn
- checking the front bearings
- checking, tuning the air shock
- checking the alignment
- checking all axle bolts
In my mind I figured it must be either the new rear tire (beads or something wrong with the tread) or the air shock (last season install, maybe too soft).
Well I finally traced it down .... I was running out of rope so I went back to the front tire and ran my hands over the tire ......
SCALLOPPED
So my advice to folks is .... don't just look at the tire and assume it looks OK because it has a lot of tread. Take your hands and feel it.
Would have saved myself a lot of time and energy ..
