QUESTIONS ON FRONT PULLEY INSTALL. 1 Year, 11 Months ago
HI GUYS,i am going to swap out the stock 32T front pulley on my 06 silverado for a 31T pully and noticed the stock 32t pulley has a shoulder on both sides and the rep 31T only has a shoulder on 1 side.

So i have a couple question before going any futher.

1)Does the 1 shoulder on the rep 31T pulley face out like i think it shouldorshould it in fact face intowards the motor?

2)Also,yami states approx 85ft lbs trq on pulley nut and barons install inst sheet states 65ft lbs trq on the same nut,so which is more correct,i would think the yami spec?

3)Lastly,this is an AL pulley and i have read they wear faster then the steel ones, doese anyone have exp with just how much faster they wear and or approx mileage you can get out of an AL pulley if the bike isnt abused, raced, and pipes are the only mod it has so not much additonal power over stock to put additonal oad on it.

Thanks...Scott

I would use the 65 ft/lbs as stated with the pulley shoulder facing out.

FOLLOWUP
Did the swap from stock 32t to 31t drive pulley, took approx 45 mins to do,1st time at it,notbad at all to do but 1/2" driev elec impact gun really helped get nut of contershaft sprocket, thats for sure.

To be safe i also used some loctite on the sproket nut too along with staking it on the 2 indented spots on the contershaft it self too as called out to do in the Yami shop manual too, don't what that thning comming off while crusng at 70mph/LOL!!!!!.

So far so good, agve me just the relief i was lookng for enabling me to get the bike into 5th gear at 4-5 mph lower speed when crusing 2 up .

Thats because a lot of the speeds i am at cwhile riming in my area 2up at at a speed/rpm in 4th hear thyats it was really time to shift but when i would hit 5th that has the largest step /most rpm dropps it would leave the motor lugging esp when riding 2 up.

But not at that same road speed with 2 up the what seems small approx 150rpm or so inc in rpm at that same spped helped and i now dont have to always be shfiting from 4th to 5th then back to 4th again back and forth when the traffic would speed up a frew mph then slow down a few mph then pick back up again, was a real pia.

Also took the bike out on the parkway/open raod and the fastest i need to cruise there is 70mph and it's just fine there being a little happer there too vs 31t sprocket esp with a few additonal rpm to hit the steep/long hills at with 2 up and not have to get into the gas quite as hard.

You would not think that 1 tooh would help that much but it actually ,well at least in my case it did.

The bike also feel's a little spunkier comming off the line and going thru the gears too.

Lasly, had my wife clock me with her 3 yr old car with 27k miles on it that seems to have an accurate speedo so when shee was doing 60mph my bikes speed reads exactly 65mph so it nkow reads 5mph faster then my actual speed. That seemd to stay constant at lower speeds too still being 5mph over actual road speed @ 40 & 50mph too.

But if that bothers me much in the future i will just install a speedo healer and be done with it which is what i bet i will end up doing so i won't have to think about it. Guess i'm getting lazy in my old age,i want all my concentraiion on keeping the big Roadie upright and the cager's away from me esp with the wifie pooh on the back ,thats for sure.

my stock 2001 was 5 mph off. speedo said 55 but actual speed was 50.
I replaced the pulley and belt and I also have a fatter, shorter rear tire and now my speedo is 8 to 10 mph off. My speedo says 70 and I'm going 60 mph. drives me nuts...
I have the speedo healer but have yet to install it. I also hate the fact I hit the rev-limit a lot sooner now. I bought a 1700 ignition module to install in my 1600 for a higher rev-limit but haven't installed that yet either.

Greenpus,i isnatled the speedo healer yesterday, its a lot easier to do then the inst make it look.

since you know our speedo is x amnt mhp off just go to the speedo healer sight and get the correction factor using your known x amnt mph reading high.

Then all you do is simply unplug the 1 plug for the speed sensore on the beik and plug in the speedo healer harness.

Then you fix the speedo healer to someplace on the bike using the supplied velcrow and you dont with the the install.

Then it took me litterally 1 min to program the speedo healer.

Oh,you also need to get rear of bike off the ground if you want to run the speedo healer in test mode to see if all is ok prior to programming it becasue you need to rotate the rear wheel some .

The new ECU/ign box should be a simple plug & play deal, that will bump up you stock 1600 what is it approx 4250 rpm limit to approx 4,750 rpm limit of the 1700.

I also just installed an aftermarket tack too,no all i have left to install are the louder horn setup, the MaxAir HD battery to starter & grn'd cables,a dyna 3000 ign box, dyna coils,& hopefully thats it for now/LOL!!!!!!!

what did you use for the 12v switched power on the speedo healer?

There is no 12v hookup that you do manually, the speedo healer gets the 12v from the stock wiring harness its plugged into.

The inst with the healer can be intimidating to some pople without much esp installing aftermarket accessories they have to program etc but its isnt near as dificult as the inst make it seem.

I paid extra for the plug and play adapter for my bike (2001) and the directions that came with that said to cut the red wire on the adapter and run it to a 12v switched power. I thought it sucked, especially since I paid extra for that cable. The directions suggested running the red wire to the 12v on the rear brake pedal

i bought mine about 4 years ago so I may have an older model than your speedhealer. I looked at the new module and it is completely different than mine so they may have changed the wiring harness for true plug-and-play
