Ignition Modules? 1 Year, 11 Months ago
Ok got a question about whether to install a Dyna 3000. Is there a very noticable difference when installing one and will it provide the better performance? Current set up BAK, ported manifold, rejetted, and Roadburner Double Eagles.

Once I installed one , it was done. If I had it to do over , I Probably would have gone with the Speedstar box , or left it stock. It made mine cranky to start. Did my buddies the same way (different boxes from Dyna). I liked the extra revs , but for me the starting was irritating. One guys opinion. BB

Primarily trying to see if it makes a major differance or if most just run stock ignition? If it was a major performance changer I would make it my next mod otherwise I want to go with a set of hardbags from hardbags.com. Thanks for input.

I have the Dyna. I don't know if it made any difference or not, but I like having the rev limiter higher. Hitting it on every gear change got old.

Goodygood, on a 1700, the performance boost is modest, on a 1600 it is almost a necessary upgrade as the stock rev limit is quite low...Where they really shine is when used in combination with a 31T pulley... I have a speedstar box on mine and it works flawlessly..

Don't expect a hp boost, if there is, won't be much, probably less than 1 or 2hp. Also depends on which year bike

1600 stock rev limit is approx 4250 with the Dyna you can raise it to 5k rpm and of course you have options with timing curve as well to match any mods that you have done or plan to do.

1700 stock rev limit is approx 4750 you can go to 5500rpm due to the valve springs, the 1700 stock unit has slightly different timing then the 1600 unit in some part due to the front pulley since the rpm's will be slightly difference to speed when compared to the 1600 engines, so they made a slight different to timing compared to a stock 1600 module

As far as either engine, 1600, 1700, pipes, air kit jetting, neither one will get more ponies above the approx 4800rpm level, so even though on a 1700 you can set the rev limit to 5500rpm, there is zero benefit for those mods, however on a 1600 engine, setting the limit to 5k rpm, you will benefit, I know on my 1600 hp tops out at 4800, if I had the stock module, I would lose hp

if you want to go on the cheap and have a 1600 engine, you can put a module from a 1700 in there, usually you can find them for 50 bucks or so

You might want to check out the RevMaster by DynaJet. It bumps the rev limit to 5,000 rpm. Very simple installation.
I installed one on my '00 R/S 4 or 5 yrs. ago & it's been absolutely trouble free.

1700 here so rev master is out but I think the hardbags are more important at this point than a few hundred more rpms lol. Plus I am looking at switching out my 32 for the 33 tooth pulley I have on hand for more highway cruising.

Thanks for all the input!
