Bike lasted today through the Appleton Flag Day parade (2 MPH for 1.7 miles). 114 Units from as far away as Quantico VA (Marine Band). Waited for the bolt to pop but it didn't. Got a feeling I'll have to do some clutch work this winter though. Inside of my right leg got kinda warm too. 'Bout the only problem. I got a helicoil just in case. Guess time will tell.

Time's up. JB Weld might be good for key fobs and such but not exhaust studs . Clifford called it right. But, I hadda go there . Putting in a helicoil tomorrow. Live and learn.

Unfortunately these parades are quite hard on many a bike. The BMW trike rider beside me didn't seem to have an issue with fried thigh or anything . I'm guessing the borderline overheating cooked the JB. It gave off it's own distinct metallic aroma which told me it wasn't gonna work. Lesson learned. BTW unless the next parade allows me to put both feet up while not nursing the clutch, I'll pass.

Through my erroneous attempts to drill and tap the hole for a new stud I've decided to take it in and have the experts fix it. Whatever the head is made of it's murder on normal drill bits and taps. Ended up using a carbide bit just to get a hole for a helicoil. Tapping it? Not with anything I got. I'll let those with more expertise (and better tools) do it. Sometimes ya just gotta realize know when you're in over your head and wallet. OK I'm done whining now.

Another HOT parade? How did our friends on the HD's do? I know they were pissing and moaning after the last one, oil lights coming on, wanting to shut down... bla bla bla... they were just having a heck of a time.

I had the bike all set to go and join you, and my renter decided to move out.. now I have an empty house to clean up and get rented out before I loose too much.....

Next Parade??

Had 2 trikes 5 bikes and a blue scooter (guess who?). 2 HD's and one had to keep the RPM's up for oil pressure. Sarah joined us and did fine. Next parade? July 4th - somewhere.

I was going to be going up to door county for the 4th, but that's been changed. Parade might be fun. Which one? Who did you take scoot to for the bolt?

Won't beat this post anymore, I promise. Just wanted to thank Randy Fox for the article on engine tear down. Might have to use it this winter. Gonna cost about $160 to fix the stud. Mechanic says ideally he'd rather weld/mill it. But at $80/hr I'll learn real fast how to get what they need to work on without mortgaging my retirement to them. Hopefully they'll do a good job but just in case I'm gonna print out the tech article. Again thanks!
