Kuryakyn Run-Turn-Brake Controller Review 1 Year, 11 Months ago
I took advantage of PhatPerformance's generous 5% Memorial Day discount to purchase a Kury Run-Turn-Brake Converter (PN 4612) for my '07 R*. The unit was shipped quickly. I also ordered the red turn-signal lenses to replace the stock clear ones. (I've always thought red looked better than the clear lenses and amber bulbs) The converter came with a load equalizer which was required on my bike. It's also advertised as "plug and play", and it was. Remove the seat, find your taillight plug and disconnect it. Insert the module and hook it in between the plugs (after using the enclosed dielectric grease), and you are basically done. Use zip ties to secure it. The load equalizer also plugs into the module. Decide whether you want the flashing brake signal option or not (I did), and that's it. Probably a 15 minute job. I like having three taillights instead of one, I like the red turn lenses better than the stock ones, and I hope the flashing brake function will be an attention-getter. (I have been manually "flashing" my brakes prior to this). Thanks again to PhatPerformance for his discount on the already low price!

OBMF I wish you well with your run- turn- brake controller! To BlackHorse and anyone else who has one, don't be suprised when sometime probably at a traffic light someone tells you that you don't have any rear lights! The r-t-b is a great idea but the one from Kury is not a good one. I have sold a dozen of them and ten have come back having failed, two of them failed on my own bike! Badlands has a much beter unit.

Hi John,

Thanks so much for the shout out and support. Super glad we could help you out. Not sure about the comments above, we've literally sold hundreds of these with barely a hiccup. Enjoy the new setup, if you ever have a problem we'll get you taken care of.

Regards,
Terry

All due respect to Clifford and his expertise, but I wonder if Kury hasn't fixed the problem with the RTB. I installed one over a year ago and it has been fine. One thing I did do, being and electronis tech., I mounted it in the tool kit tray and used nylon ties to 'heat sink' it to the tray to help dissapate heat from the load balancer and RTB controller. I love mine and cheaped out and just painted my amber bulbs red with some model paint from the hobby shop.

I hope that Kury has improved yhe quality of the unit. One major problem with it though is that if it fails; none of the raer end lights will work, NOTHING! I had a customer come to me with one turn signal not working. The problem was a Badlands R-T-B, it was beyond the warranty and they replaced it at a very fair price.

I did as tsladden did and zip-tied it to the tool tray. I then fastened the load equalizer up under the lip at the rear of the seat above the tool tray in the same fashion to act as a heat sink. Time will tell if the unit is tough enough to handle the job. I was also a bit concerned about the areas where the groups of wires (which are rather fine-gauge) go into the module, so I reinforced them with wraps of vinyl electrical tape.

I have the Kury R-T-B module for 3.5 years now and it has functione well. I also added Radiantz red Led arrays for each of the turn signals. I get to keep the clear lenses that match the tail light and when the lights are on all red. The LED's are much brighter than the oem bulbs. The only issue I had was the LED's started failing one at a time after about 9 months and Radiantz replaced them free. I mounted the module to the frame rail to provide a metalic heat sink for it and the load equalizer is mounted with ties to the frame rail on the other side under the seat. If you do not have an RTB I would highly recommend it especially if you live in a metro area.
