I wear a DOT half or Snell full face helmet all the time. Passengers do too.
Thanks for asking.

DOT half 99 percent of the time but I do on ocasion hit the short run without one. I know why some people will go without one all the time and I dont blame them one bit.

My wife usually wears a DOT open-face helmet (fiberglass) on longer trips. She has gradually drifted to wearing a helmet less, especially on short trips. I have become a helmet wearer as little as possible. Michigan is just a jump from us here in NW Ohio, and a helmet is required there, and we ride there a lot. When I DO wear a helmet, it is a restored 40 year-old half-shell. Definitely not DOT.

I live in Florida and always wear one. It gets hot in a full face so I swap between the full face and shortie depending on weather and how far I going. Passengers wear one or they don't ride. My brother rides and always wears one. He's an ER nurse and sees the results of not wearing one. Being an LEO I've worked my share of accidents, never had a rider without a helmet live. Seen lots of riders with helmets stand up and walk away. But I do respect ones right to not wear where they can. It's all about personal freedom and choice. I'm off my box now. Thanks!!! stay safe!!

Like I stated before I truly believe in choice and striking down any laws that are to 'protect me from myself'. I wear one 100% of the time. It's one thing if I go down and kill myself but what if I just get severe brain injury? Then I'm drastically changing the lives of my loved ones who would have to care for me! By the way for those interested in the Myrtle Beach laws. The South Carolina Supreme Court struck down Myrtle Beach's illegal helment law and ordered them to refund all costs to those they ticketed. They have changed the signs at the city limits to say "Helmets Suggested". From what I understand the court cut them a new one! I crossed those A$$holes of my 'go to' list two years ago when this all started. The local economy is really feeling the loss of income so I expect to see the noise and parking ordanences to go away before long. I still won't go and I think a lot of riders won't.

Helmets are NOT mandatory in Illinois,
However they are mandatory on my bike by my choice...
I wear a shorty DOT (warm) and full face DOT plus full leather gloves.
No helmet and gloves, No riding, That's my golden rule. Not even around the block.

i wear a theatrical helmet, with the rear straps cut.
first thing i would loose if i went down.
the law apparently specifies you just have to look like your wearing a helmet.
5 miles i'm in RI where the prop helmet gets taken off. not in NH either.
and i ride my 100MPH lawnchair dressed as the weather permits.
shorts and some closed toe shoe. nothing like flying 3 feet off the ground almost naked.

Mr. Breeze wrote:
For those of you that 'think' you wear a 'DOT Approved' helmet. You don't. The D.O.T. does not 'Approve' anything. This is where we have all been hoodwinked.
The FMVSS 218 regulatory scheme is aimed at the manufacturer, and in that scheme, the MANUFACTURER self-certifies that the helmet will pass the testing that is FMVSS. That would be fine if there was some sort of control in place.
Why do you suppose that lawmakers are so adamant that we wear a piece of equipment that fails testing about 45% of the time?
http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/testing/comply/fmvss218/
The DOT/NHTSA or any other government agency WILL NOT and CANNOT APPROVE of any item manufactured ANYWHERE. They government is not empowered to APPROVE ANY consumer product, and never will be.
but what to me is that supposed to mean? MA law says helmet mandatory.
so I LOOK like i'm wearing one and in 4 years >25K miles NOBODY has EVER pulled me over yet for any reason. (maybe they know i'll talk them to death!)
