Welcome Wyvern,

Nice to see another Missouri rider in here. I live just north in St. Joseph. I know you will enjoy your 1700. I bought mine in January and haven't missed a day on it at least for a mile or two unless there was snow on the street.

Enjoy the clinic, these guys are alright.

Beau
Harleton, Texas (East Texas)
2003 RoadStar 1600 Silverado
I've owned 3 Hondas, 2 Harleys, 2 Kawasakis and 1 Yamaha
I still have my little Honda Shadow Sabre (28000 miles) and I really like it in town. Water cool and shaft drive are two things I said I would never have and I have really loved them both on that bike. The only Thing I don't like about shaft drive are it's inherent inefficiencies compared to belts or chains. The Roadie gets as good if not better fuel milage than the Sabre. Now that I have my carb jetted properly my RoadStar is a joy to ride. Before that I was thinking about selling it and getting a VTX 1300 OR 1800. I've always like the lines of the RoadStar aand it is a much better handling bike than my Honda.
Nice to meet everyone.

Welcome to the Clinic Beau.

There a few other Texans here so you should be hearing from them soon.

I also had a Shadow and loved it but I did not like the looks of the radiator and shaft drive. And I really hated the shaft drive effect. Except for having continual problems with water in starter, the bike was bulletproof.

Hello everyone-I'm Steve Stewart and I am a Deputy Sheriff and Firefighter in Eatonton GA-just southeast of Atlanta on Lakes Oconee and Sinclair-the PCSO159 comes from my agency and badge #(Putnam County Sheriff's Office #159). I just got my '06 R* 1700 in Jan. '07 going from an '05 VTX1300. My wife and I ride every chance we get and have some beautiful country in our immediate area to ride. Thanks to everyone for being so helpful and courteous on this site- I find it much better than the VTX owners site and much more friendly

Welcome to the Clinic Steve.

Seen quite a bit of the US but never been to the GA area. I'm sure you'll here from the 'other' Ga buy soon.

Hi, All,

Greetings from Earl in Bawlmer, Merlin (Baltimore, Maryland). I'm Maryland transplant and been here most of my life, but I will always call Savannah, GA home.

My beloved wife and I have 5 kids and 5 grandkids between us (literally, at times). Was an appliance repair dispatcher for GE for almost 18 years, then went to college at age 37. Earned a BS degree at 40 and picked up my MA degree in Publications Design, Creative Writing track, in May 2006. Now I'm a communications Consultant for the Financial Services Industry. It really is more interesting and challenging than it sounds...honestly.

Ride a 2005 Road Star Silverado. It's my 4th Yamaha. My first was an RD200 in 1976 (age 17), then an '82 550 Maxim, and then a '96 750 Virago. Have had spells between bikes, but not too long. Sold the Virago in '99 when I could no longer ride because of a dying hip joint. The doc wouldn't operate. Said 40 was too young. A month later he told me he couldn't wait. New hip that August.

My wife also surprised me this year. Told me I could go out shopping for another bike as soon as we paid off one of the cars. Went looking for a V-Star 1100 Classic, took her to help me pick it out, rode away with the Roadie Silverado at her urging. (I really did balk at the belt drive - love the drive shaft - and the size of the engine.)

Bought the bike April 17, 2006. Put on 9,230 miles in the first year. Have over 13,000 miles now and have taken three fairly long riding trips (950 miles; 2,045 miles; and 1,688 miles. I ride year round except snow and sleet, at least down to 17 degrees Fahrenheit so far.

Love this bike and get loads of admiring comments. Completely stock!

Joined the forum about 3 weeks ago, I guess, and have learned tons in that time. Have also enjoyed the humorous banter here.

Post edited by: chunt889, at: 2007/06/26 11:44
