I wear a DOT approved full face helmet, 100% of the time. It is the law in California but I most likely would even if it wasn't. I like my noggin in the (mis)shape that it is in.

I do feel the law is ridiculous though, we should have a choice.

I wear one because the Law says so.

I wear one because I've only been riding for a few years.

I wear one because I commute 110 miles a day on some of the most notorious highways in NJ.

There are many days where I wish the law wasn't so strict.

I have ridden without in RI where it's not the law. I truly enjoyed every minute of it. I would prefer if the law were open to the choice for everyone over 18 or with some measure of riding experience (3yrs or 'x' #miles).

I hate the Nanny State. We have lost so much freedom already through excessive regulation and taxation in every area of life that these petty driving laws get all the attention.
27 years ago I was daydeaming about my sweetheart and swerved into oncoming traffic while riding a little Yamaha 175 enduro. If I hadn't been wearing my helmet (required, then, only by good sense), I would have died that day. After colliding with a T-bird I landed right on my head an split the helmet in two. Thank God I was spared that day to get married to my sweetheart and have five great kids with her. Of course I wear a DOT helmet- I'd be a fool not to.
There shouldn't be laws for that which common sense requires.

In Florida we have the choice and I choose to wear a DOT half helmet. I have been thinking about going back to my Snell/DOT certified Shoei full face helmet, but it is sooooo hot. I also wear gloves, boots, long pants and when tolerable an armored or leather jacket. I have never been down at speed on the road, but many times in the dirt and without gear the healing is long and painful.

Never, unless I'm in a helmet state. The only thing it does is yank my head around and distract me. My recent trip across NE on I80 was terrible. I will say riding on an interstate with no windshield and a half helmet makes about as much sense as a 25 year old virgin. But I also have to say a rider shouldn't have to be distracted by getting his head jerked around by truck blasts and category 1 cross winds

I live in the peoples republic of Mass-o-chusetts. We have a Helmet laws and they do check if you get stopped and see a questionable helmet, so when I ride here always a DOT helmet.

I live near New Hampshire and they have no helmet laws, I sometimes go with out a helmet while in NH and have even gone up just for that reason. I really do like the feeling of freedom of choice, and as stated before there should be no need for the Nanny State Government to protect us from our selves. It is our job and choice to be safe not some Politicians place to Mandate or Rule us into common sense.

As far as I see it we are our own keepers.

But as a local bike shop owner once said to a friend of mine "If you have a $5 dollar head wear a $5 dollar helmet"......That about summed it up 20 years ago and still does.

Stay safe and free!

I have 2 full face HJC and 2 open face 1/2 helmets. All DOT.
