wiring to add 2 additional brake lights 1 Year, 11 Months ago
Okay...I did a search & did not find this. I hope I did not miss it.

I have added 2 HD brake/tail lights to the rear passenger back rest support tubes.
The lights have 1157 bulbs & LED's will not fit in these lights, thus I have to find wires capable of handleing the amps of 1157 bulbs for tail & stop. If it is too hard to separate these circuits
I want to at least wire the stop lights.

Can anyone help with this.

Thanks for your help....Don

Why don't they fit?

ebay is full of 1156 LEB bulbs that are the same size as a standard 1156 bulb.

The HD lights have are a small diameter & when you try to insert the LED you can not push the bulb in far enough to bottom out the bulb pins.

The diameter of the LED to too large & interfers with the side of the light housing. I bought them from Auto Zone. Note these are 1157 not 1156 bulbs.

Thanks Doc, Don

I changed the sockets on my turn signals and used these,

Hi Bill, That would work if it was a 1157. There web sites states the 1157 LED bulbs will not fit my tail lights. I need more brake lite.

Looks like I really need wiring directions not LED's.

Anyone know how to do it?

Thanks Don

Just thinking....I could use a relay, using the tail light wire for the trigger & pick
the power up from the battery. Do you have a better plan?

What makes you think that the existing wire won't handle the load of 2 more bulbs. I added to mine and there is no problem. Neither the wire or fuse should be maxed out with 2 more bulbs.I just tapped into the wires at the junction box behind the lic plate on my 07

You used the license plate wire for the tail light, but where did you pick up the brake lightwire.
The guys I ride with say I need more brake light.

Thanks Don
