first road trip-but need some help1 1 Year, 11 Months ago
HEY GUY'S

WENT ON MY FIRST ROAD TRIP, FROM PA. TO ROANOKE VA.
WENT WITH MY CHURCH GROUP,GUY'S CAME IN FROM TEXAS,FLA.
GREAT TIME (20 GUY'S WITH BIKES) LOTS OF GREAT ROADS TO RIDE ON.
PUT ON 1,500 MILES. WAS GONE FOR FIVE DAY'S!!

16 HARLEYS
1 ROADSTAR
1- HONDA VTX 1800
2- BMW'S

BIKE RAN GREAT! 53 MPG ON THE HIGHWAY, HANDEL GREAT ON ALL THE
MT. ROADS (LEARNED A LOT ABOUT THE BIKE OVER THIS TIME AWAY)

HERE'S MY QUESTION: I PUT FLOOR BOARD EXT. ON COUPLE YEARS AGO
PER OUR FORUM. LIKE THEM A LOT A LONG WITH ROADKING ENGINE GUARDS
WITH PEGS. EVERY THING WAS OK WITH THE RIDING I DID AT HOME! BUT BEING ON THE HIGHWAY DOING 70-80 MPH I HAVE VERY BAD VIBRATION ON THE FLOOR
BOARDS & HIGHWAY PEGS (BAD!)

DO YOU THINK THAT THE VIBRATION IS MOVING UP THE FLOORBOARD EXT.
INTO THE ENGINE GUARD THEN INTO THE PEGS? OR IS THIS JUST THE ROADSTAR
AT THAT SPEED? WAS THINKING OF RE-INSTALLING THE FLOORBOARDS BACK TO
OEM LOCATION THEN TAKE THE BIKE FOR ANOTHER RIDE TO SEE IF THE
VIBRATION IS BETTER OR GONE!

DO YOU THINK IT'S WORTH A TRY OR AM I WASTING MY TIME!!

THANKS

BARTISH

mine will shake your teeth out at certain speeds. I think it's just the nature of the beast.

Bartish:

You said you learned a lot of things. Please tell us what you learned so that we can get a few pearls.

I recently traveled to key West, Fl from Princeton,NJ on my MotoGuzzi. I'd like to go on a R* in future.

Just curious about any quirks of the R*. I know the Guzzi.

Hate to give you some bad news....moving your boards back to the oem mount location will not remove the vibration. It is inherant with most roadies in that speed range.

My star does not have that vibration at any speed, and if it did, I would be looking for it. If you sit in nuetral and run it through the rpm range, do you get any different vibes at different rpms? If not, then I would look at the driveline and/or tires.
If it happens only under power and moving, then I would first balance the tires. My personal choice is to remove all the weights and put dynabeads in the tires. I have used them in my last three bikes (currently a trike), and really am impressed.
If not the tires, then it has to be in the driveline somewhere.

I was thinking the same thing. Mine doesn't vibrate much at all, at any speed. You could try moving the boards back to the stock position and see if there is any difference. You might check your motor mounting bolts. It's an easy check and if they are loose it will vibrate bad.

I've had both the 3" & the 3.5" extenders on at different times, and never had a vibration at all, even at 90. I would start looking elsewhere like the other guys suggested... Hope you find it soon!

hey guys

no vibration until 70 to 80 mph (wasn't over that speed)

vibration was just in the floorboards & pegs!

the harley engine guard is connected to the floor board
ext.

o vibration in handlebars & seat! could ride all day
at 60 mph
note: 0 vibration in handelbars & seat at any speed!
was just the floorboards into engine guard pegs

I know that there should be some vibration because of the v-twin
but i think it's to much when it hurts your feet!

fireman, i will check the motor mt's

Mine has the floorboard extensions and no vibration for 20,000 miles. Of course I also have the yammie big bars. If you're going to add on Harley parts, maybe you should expect vibration?
