Any Suggestions for Southern Ontario Riding? 1 Year, 11 Months ago
|
|
My wife and I are leaving for a long weekend trip from NW OH to Niagara Falls over July 4th. We will be heading north through Detroit and Windsor, over to Niagara Falls (Canadian side) and back down through NY, PA and back home across OH. About 900 miles altogether. Any suggestions, hints or tips for riding in Canada, specifically southern Ontario? We aren't especially in a hurry and plan to hug the Erie coastline. We have a hotel room in London for night #1, and a B&B on the river in Canada near the falls for the next two nights. Anybody know what the gas situation is like in Ontario? Are there BP's ( bad word, I know) or Marathon stations? Those are the cards I hold. I'm also looking for suggestions for good CHEAP raingear for the wife. Any suggestions are welcome on any and all topics concerning Canadian travel....

Cross over to Sarnia, Canada at Port Huron, MI. The view from the Blue Water bridge of Lake Huron and the St.Clair River is spectacular! You should be able to use your Visa card at any of the gas stations along the way.
Take your passports with you.

X2 on crossing in Sarnia and taking your passports. Sarnia tends to not be very busy to cross either, at least compared to Windsor, and then you miss the construction on the Highway on your way to London.
I normally cruise around the bridge on a Sunday afternoon.
The only concern you need for driving in Canada is that we drive on the left side of the road. Like Britian.

That's correct. Most people on Ontario don't know how to drive.
Going straight down from London and hugging the coastline is a good idea, some nice country between along the coast. There area also vineyards that you can tour as you get closer to Niagara Falls.

The coast of Lake Erie from Port Stanley (south of London) all the way to Port Colborne (1/2 hour from Niagara) is an awesome ride. There are many little lake towns with plenty of places to eat and get gas (for the bike, not just from eating, although you can do that too LOL).
this site has a downloadable PDF of some of the routes and rides:

That's a great site. How about around Lake Ontario? I live in Rochester.
