Uneven fuel distribution 1 Year, 10 Months ago

Changed the exhaust gaskets today to try to get rid of low speed decell popping. Took a quick peek at the exhaust valves. Man, this bike really runs rich on the rear jug. The front was nice and white on the valve stems where the rear was sooty. Funny, because the manifold looks to be symmetrical inside. Still running the stock manifold although I have a ported one sitting on the bench to install one day, so I doubt there is an air leak. She runs like a champ, so I'm not trying to correct any issues, it is just an observation.

color of plugs shouldn't be that different, a little but not that much. If I mixed mine up, you would have to stare and look real hard to see a difference

Like Erbman I can't tell any difference in my plugs and I haven't had the exhaust off to see what it looks like.
Of course if mine were lowered in the back and could accelerate as fast as yours looks like it can then would I find that the greater mass of fuel is forced into the rear cylinder? Ok Ok I'll get serious.
I've noticed in the stock carburetor that the open part of the shroud that sticks up from the needle jet doesn't face straight back. I can't remember which way it faces but I've always wondered why it's like that.
As for what you're seeing could it be remotely possible that one of the rear plugs isn't firing. Or possibly the exhaust on that cylinder isn't evacuating the cylinder like it should. Just some thoughts.

It runs way too good to be missing on the rear jug. I thought the same about the exhaust. Maybe a gerbil crawled up there, but it was clear. You may be on to something about the flow from the needle. Maybe I'll find one of those "Tornado" things you see advertised on late night TV and see if I can make it fit. Experiments are a good thing, right?

It's curious that the exhaust is like that but if it runs good then it must be the nature of the beast. Good lookin bike.

Baron's makes a part called a "Torquemaster" that's very similar to the Tornado you mentioned. I've got one, but still think my rear cylinder runs rich. Harley mechanics tell me that Harleys are the same way; something about rear cylinder running hotter with less airflow & design of V-Twin intake manifolds.

Rick,
No, I haven't pulled the plugs to check them out. I just looked at the backside of the valves. Next time I have the tank off I'll take a look at the plugs.
