Washed Bike Now Won't Start 1 Year, 10 Months ago
Well I finally broke down and washed the filthy pig and as usual used the leaf blower to dry it off and let it sit for about an hour then went out to fire it up and won't crank. When I hit the starter button it makes a "whirring" sound, but nothing engages or cranks. Figured I would just let it sit and dry completely and went and took the horse for a ride for a few hours, came home and now nothing, speedometer needle cycles when I turn the key on but not the gas needle, and now I get NOTHING when I hit the starter. Over the last couple days I noticed it was getting tougher and tougher to start and looked things over and the positive cable on the battery had broken so I fixed that, and left the charger on it all night and when I backed it out of the garage before washing it fired right up like a champ. Any suggestions on where to start looking/checking?? Thanks in advance guys.

Chief:

Can you jump it at the starter? Sounds like you might be in need of one soon.

Good news, though. Thunderfire one's on Ebay are about $200.00 for chrome. Nice time for an upgrade...

Yeah but just for a sanity check to make sure I did it right??? I didnt have the truck running when I tried to jump start, should I turn the truck on?? For some reason I'm thinking it should NOT be running, please advise if this is correct?

No. Try your jump starting with the truck off, but the battery fully charged. You don't want to try to charge the truck battery with your Roadie.

Well I did try it the right way, I am gonna go back out and check and make sure all electric connections and so forth are tight and dry. I swear I am gonna just load the dogs and horse and drive towards montana till I either get to the mountains or run out of gas and just ride up in the mountains and become a hermit, Anybody ever see the movie Jeremiah Johnson???? Just been a frustrating few days, and getting really aggravated...

Start with the connections at your battery and go from there. Good luck, I hate electrical problems.

I think I got it solved, the positive connection at the starter was loose and I think the little cheap charger/maintainer that I got from wally world is not charging properly, I have a better quality charger that I hooked to it and it reads less than 25% charged, so gonna let that one go on a real slow deep charge and see where I stand from there. Thanks for the input guys.

Yeah but then you'll have to build your own cabin , take a native wife and find an orphan boy and then lose them to retaliation for leading union forces through a burial ground. THEN you'll have to spend the rest of your days revenge killing. Sounds like a lot of work. I think i'd go ahead and pick up a new starter and enjoy.

LMAO You definately have several valid points, but I think the loose connection on the starter and the faulty charger were the issue, all seems right in the world again.
