Changing final drive belt, special tools? 1 Year, 10 Months ago
I will be out at my place in AZ for a few days July 16-19. I have a tear in my final drive belt so I'll be changing it. I keep the bike in a 5x10 storage unit with no power or light, so I want to be as prepared as possible. I have a jack there. Torque wrench, sockets, allens. Anything else I might need? It's going to be 1000 degrees and dark in there so I wanna make sure there won't be any hitches! Thanks!

Only thing I can think of is basic hand tools. Needle nose pliers, open end wrenches etc. Good luck. Drink plenty of fluids.(BEER)

I cant help much. I have an open pulley so you just loosen the rear axle and pull it out and there ya are. I'd check the manual and see if they list needed tools.

If you are going to AZ where to? We have some fine Roadie bros over there that could lend a hand...or maybe a beer!

Trust me it's not 1000 degrees, it's only 112. You might want to bring a lantern so you can work after the sun goes down, as it's really too hot to work during the day.
Your going to play hell trying to get that main nut off the front pulley. I use an impact gun. Do you know for sure you have a large enough socket for the front pulley and you need to be able to remove the axle & wheel and the entire swing arm. You might need a rubber mallet.

I was going to say... the swingarm has to be dropped, and it just isn't a job to do in an AZ Summer!!!

I'd pay a shop before I'd attempt that under those conditions!!!

Go to the tech section here on removing the rear wheel and print it out to take with you. It will greatly help you. When you take the swingarm off you can get by without removing the front pulley. It takes a 36mm socket. You can get by with a 1&1/4 in. but be very carefull.
