Performance Time...opinions Needed 1 Year, 10 Months ago
So...finally done for now with the cosmetic upgrades, and want to play around with my performance. Initial plan is to get components as I can convince the wife. Looking at air kit, ported manifold, iridium plugs, ignition upgrade, and maybe the coils and plug wires.

What air kit do you guys recommend for performance? And secondly what do you think might look good on my bike with apes and fishtails?

Please dont tell me it is personal opinion, as I know that, and am specifically asking for opinions.

Thanks for any feedback

The Yamaha Speedstar V102 (or V98) BAK is kinda' cool looking and sounds similar to a '60's muscle cars with an open 4 barrel carb. It's easy to install because it is specifically designed for the Road* and less expensive than other BAK's in some cases.
I have one in my sig picture.

Hard to go wrong with the Baron's BAK. I personally have the V 102 cover on my BAK and like it. Barons has a lot of choices so sure you will find one you like, they even started a pin up girl version recently that could accent your old school look with the Fishtails. Baron's BAK also comes with the Barons needle and Mikuni jet kit, and rain cover.

Mr. C's K&N filter is functional and a fraction of the cost of the Baron's BAK and looks good too.

This would be a good place to start... http://www.maxairengineering.com/

As far as a BAK... I would have a universal K&N if I didn't like the billet Yamaha air box cover so much that was on my bike when I got it. But the box is modded to breathe really well.

I did Mr. C's filter set up, hand ported my manifold, V&H ProPipe. Iridiums, coils, wires and a 31 tooth pulley....oh, and I took off/chopped off anything that was heavy like bags, fairing etc.....it flies!

Something tear-drop shapped, like an S&S cover, or a smallish round one with a chrome outside would look good on your bike. Similar to what takehikes has on his.

The Mr C's one that is on my bike in this sign pic is for sale. I haven't posted it yet it has the skull and crossbones stick on on the chrome cover to cover the K&N letters. It also has a Baron's Power Cone in it and SS home made mounts polished. The bike dynoed 75 hp 98 lbs tq with it on it. It is just a few months old, I put a HSR Flat Side carb on the bike and need a larger filter for increased air flow.

Curt...now that I am diving into these mods...I need to come chat with you. I think you changed your email recently...send me a pm with your new one. We live too close, and I need to come say hi at least. Let me know when a good time would be.
