Most of us spend some of our time, and a lot of our money fixing up our scooters to look, feel, and behave in a way that fits us better. I’ve seen, either on the TV or in a magazine, a couple of leather covered motorcycles. This seems like something I’d like to try even though I have absolutely no experience in leather work other than polishing shoes or cleaning my riding gear. Yup, that is what I had in mind. Well, maybe not the frame, but fenders, tank, and maybe the upper fork tins. If I could find some information of covering metal with leather I'm thinking I can buy a set of used fenders and a tank and mess around trying out various ideas. As far as getting a horse; my sister-in-law thinks that those of us who ride motorcycles are just old west drifters riding out of time. She may have something there 'cause I'm known to cut loose with a "Yee-Haw" when roaring along the river curves early in the morning taking the long way to work.  |

I have seen a leather covered suzuki intruder... it was brown leather, quite nice looking... you may be able to find it on intruderalert.com the only problem I saw was where he spilled a few drops of gas on the tank and it marked the leather.... I'll look at my pictures to see if I took a picture of it ~Dave

Interesting idea. 
... but I have my doubts on how well leather would hold up when conanstantly exposed to the elements. Even if you never road in the rain the sun would surely bake the hell out of it. 
... and when it rains, I guess the leather covered parts would shrink. 
How do the tank bibs hold up?

I would have thought that leather covered fenders and tank would be a problem, and then I thought; “what about those leather covered hard bags Yamaha came out with?” Besides, cows don’t sweat the weather. My leather chaps and jacket get wet all the time and they don’t shrink. I did find a photo of a leather covered tank and fender on the Easy Rider web site. But I’m still wondering how to go about doing it.

Durability will depend on the type of tanning and finish. I'd get some expert advice, but I think chrome tanned, pre-colored would be best.
Vegetable tanned, natural finish would require a helluva lotta maintenance. Oiling, cleaning, etc.
I have natural saddlebags that have lasted 20 years (and look like it, too). That aged look is OK in saddlebags. But it depends on what look you are wanting for the bike.
I have made myself a luggage rack out of oak that would great on a brown or maroon leather bike.

You need to first place your image someplace that the clinic can address. Usually it's " http://[your site]/[filename]". In this case it looks like it might be " http://[your site]/buffalo_motorcycle_jpeg.jpg".

Good Lord, when you say leather covered, do you mean the frame, bars, fuel tank, etc..? It may be easier to get a horse
