i have the 3" road burner drag pipes.. I have the baffels out and they are crazy loud all the time. I'm thinkin about putting the baffels back in. Correct me if i'm wrong but i believe road burners are made by Hard Krome. I use to have a set of HK's on a vtx i had.. My roadburners look exactly like the Hk's i had. I only paid 320 for them new on ebay. Maybe with the baffel in this is what your lookin for, but i haven't tried it yet with the baffels, so i dont know what its like. If i were you i'd just make sure you can remove the baffels. Just gives you alittle more flexibility if you want it louder or quieter.

I'm running V&H Shortshot staggereds.
When I want I can set off car alarms.
Most of the time I keep them quiet thiugh.
In fact I have gotten compliments on how quiet they are.
With them it's all about throttle control.

I got a cheap pair of long shot Santee pipes on e-bay and they arent my ultimate goal, but I do love the way they rumble and when I really launch it hard, it gives me just enough crackle to satisfy the raise in adrenalin that comes with it.

They have some 10-12 inch baffle inserts, I tried them without and this big assed 4 valve per cylinder engine was just too dang loud and irritating, even for an old chopperhead, so I put them back in. What sound is left after it passes these 'sorta baffles' is enough.

I remember riding with a guy that had a 80 inch side valve Indian with 12 inch grass burner pipes back in the early 80's and every danged time a cylinder fired when you weren't waiting for it, it scared ya to jump .. LOL And I was riding a Superglide 74 inch Shovel with slash drags to the footpegs at the time and that danged Indian still rattled me.

Glad to see your looking for a 'nice sounding but not too loud' set of pipes ... the longer pipes will give you a deeper and mellower sound with a little baffle to cut it down to enjoyable, true duals and long shots probably be your best bet.
If we are gonna raise he!! with cagers to be considerate and watch out for us at lights and left turns and stuff, we really do need to be considerate back some too, ya know.

BillD, it's funny you should ask what my Roady is, it's a 2008 Silverado S just like yours.
