pms adjustment.. 1 Year, 8 Months ago
Just how sensitive is the pms screw on your bike..?? It is said to turn it in until the engine stumbles, but mine goes in all the way and does not respond..it usually runs at 1/2 to 3/4 turn out..if i try to go back to the stock 35 pilot jet the bike wont run..i have the 37.5 that came with my cobra jet kit in and it fires right up..the common practice is 2-3 turns out..backing out makes the mixture rich..mine is rich enough at 1/2 turn out..the float level is right, would the slide needle adjustment affect on the pms screw..??Adjusting automotive carbs you can hear the rpm change..i cant notice any change going in or out 3 turns on the pms screw..its a brand new barons screw so i know its not worn or faulty..even with the stock pms it did the same thing..would the cobra jet kit make the carb act this way..the bike usually runs great but the pms is way in..

Its been my experience that the pms will respond but not real quick, and if your jetted too rich, very little at all..I didn't run the stock carb long so don't have much time with it....

yes i did the choke knob trim just 2 days ago..the bike will idle with the choke on but if i try to drive it dies..it doesnt like the choke on..i just did the intake porting mod as well so im not sure what kind of havoc thats going to cause .. im going to have to start from scratch and go over the whole carb now..as long as the flooding has stopped..

Flashback, i tried to lower the primary jet so i can get more room on the pms and the bike wont even run..a smaller jet would lean out the primary circuit i think..unless i need to redo the slide washer thing with the smaller jet..im going to redo the whole mess this weekend from scratch..

Porting the manifold has made it even richer. You are too rich if the PMS doesn't make a difference and is that far in. Google your town and see what the elevation is then tell us. Also what is you jetting at this point? The needle does have an effect on your idle to some extent.

With those settings and at your altitude you should be lean. Are your pipes black with soot? What do your plugs look like? I have gut feeling you have a case of SVS because of your flooding problem not by rich jetting. Try spraying deep creep into the carb a few times and sea foam in a tank of gas. Run the crap out of it and see what you get.

I pulled the plugs last week, the rear were slightly black and the front were clean...my pipes are black with soot but it wipes off..how rich could it have been if i was pulling 43mpg..?? wouldnt the fuel mileage be an indicator as far as tune goes..i would throw a 42mm mikuni on there now but im not sure about how the linkage and the tps would be adapted to the new carb..do you think it would be worth it Curt..?? does that carb fit on the stock intake..??

If you have your idle too high it will also effect the way your PMS will react. Did you try adjusting the screw after you got the flooding to stop?
