But I notice by sales ads everyone here is very cheap, so only a few people have them. I always thought filters were cheaper than motors. When I am paying for them they are anyways.

Stinger's right... test results I've seen indicate the Purolator Pure One is one of the finest oil filters out there. Despite that, the SuperTech ST 7317 is a perfectly fine filter and under $3.

I'm not knocking all you fellows that pay big bucks for your oil and/or your filters... you're just luvin' your baby, and that's fine. But, I've been riding and driving for more than 40 years now, and a good oil and a good filter will serve you just fine and you'll go for many years and miles with no problems... today's oils are better than ever.

So, for me... I go with value, the most protection I can get for the least amount of $$$. For me, that's the Shell Rotella T 5w-40 Synthetic in the pre-measured 4 qt. jug and the ST 7317 filter... both found on the shelves of Wally*World. What could be better than an oil change for about $22 with perfectly fine products that do their job?

So, go ahead and buy $125 filtration systems and $9 a qt oil, and luv your baby. I love mine too, but she can't tell a cubic zircon from a diamond.

funny little thing happened to me when changing my oil.

i normally put 2 quarts in, start the engine for 15-20 seconds. then put the other 2 in.

Well i accidentally put 3 quarts in (almost) and towards the end of that 3rd quart, the oil started filling up my funnel... as in the bike was full....crap...so i hit the starter button about 6 times to move some oil into the engine components, and this made the oil go low enough to close the cap and start the bike.... then after 15 seconds of idle, i added the rest of the oil.

won't forget that one again

The oil supply for the pressure feed to the filter and then the engine comes exclusively from the tank so no damage. That, at one time or another has probably happened to a lot of us.

The freaking dealer mechanic buggered my engine bolt, I got it off and back on, but I'm going to have to change the bolt next time I change oil.
I know they did it because they are the only ones that changed the oil since the bike was new. He rounded off one corner, I know I didn't do it because I caught the rounded corner before I put the wrench on it.

Lol, how long have you been wasteing money paying for oil changes,do it yourself.

I think a few people here changed out their oil bolts out. There are two 17mm and they swapped them out for magnetic ones and I think those are 15mm. I haven't done that but you might as well.

I picked up a couple at AutoZone when I did mine recently.
I told them 14mm x 1.50, magnetic, oil drain plug. The 1.50 is the important part.
If I remember correctly, the head on the new plugs was actually 13mm.
A new sealing washer comes with the bolt.
