I'm with you davehrn. I drilled just four 1/2" holes in the aft baffle but I did remove the cone. I love the sound. Did have to disable the AIS though. Will remove it someday. While I am very happy with the sound from this stage one mod. can anyone put into words how different the exhaust sound will be if I go all the way to the stage three mod ?

ya, don't worry if you screw up. unless you get down on your knees and look directly in the pipe, you will never know if the pieces are uneven, or if the slots aren't the same size. though I did have a friend do exactly that yesterday... also told me that I was running a little rich (he did it with the engine running) Damn harley riders... hahahaha ~D

Xlnt! Been thinking of doing the Stage 1 for a while but was worried about the look. Your pics convinced me it looks good. Now to push me over the edge, how loud is it? I like my bikes quiet on the highway, love it when they get louder upon accelleration. The stocks are just a bit to quiet, to tame, just looking to kick it up a notch without waking the neighbors(unless I want to !!

not real loud. My last bike was a 750 virago with jardine drag pipes on it.. very loud. the stage 1 seems to add volume at the low end, I barely notice when on the highway. the stocks were VERY quiet... so I'd say it doubled the noise, but really hard to explain... ~D

Well you guys pushed me into it! Did the Stage 1 Mod tonight. Only took about an hour, I still have the fine finish work(a little grinding, paint..). The sound is perfect!!! A beautiful low rumble, sounds big and powerful which is about right.
I've owned big bikes with Double D's and V&H Longshots and didn't like either, way to loud at any throttle, and neither had enough bottom end. This may be perfect, and it only cost me a Dremel, which I will use often. Thanks to all you for the great info and pics...

Hello All,
Just joined the site. I had read the posts about the Stage 1 mod. I liked what Dave did on his bike and did the same to mine, 05 RoadStar Silverado, and like the deep rumble. Doubt I will go to Stage 3. May put DG Hard Kromes on next year.
Dave, thanks for the pics and info. Really made things easier.
Got a question......a friend of mime has a VStar 650. He wants to do the same to his. Anyone know if the same mod can be done on a 650?
Chuck
