Anyone in the Simi Valley Area???? 2 Years, 7 Months ago

For those of you that have been here a while you may remember me mentioning my step mom's father who lives in Simi Valley. He has a R* with over 100K miles on it. He is a vietnam veteran and his health has become an issue. He has been fighting cancer for many many years. He is unable to turn wrenches any more and his bike has started "running funny". He believes it to be carb related from sitting. Anyway - does anyone feel like or know anyone that might feel like helping him out to get the bike running. We would be willing to compensate the person for their time. I wish I was closer! I appreciate anything you guys can come up with!!! Thanks in advance! |

Thanks for bumping this greyphart.
I know most don't want to take on the resposibility of this request, but if any of you know of a reputable shop that might have a pick-up option available that would work as well. I just want to find someone who knows what they are doing and can either work on it at his house or pick the bike up and bring it back for him.
I would even entertain if someone could remove the carb and send it to me so I can rebuild it and send it back for installation. I want to have new plugs installed and a basic service done as well. Thanks in advance guys!

Hey Shamrock,
Guarantee I could get him running good again. But I am about 1 to 1 1/2 hours away in good traffic. If he would be willing to come out to Corona on a weekend, be glad to help out. Fully outfitted garage with all the tools we need. We could get his carb off, cleaned up, and back on in no time at all.
But couldn't take compensation. Sorry 
Let me know if he can get out this way.

Well, fwiw, I'm glad to do it. Its not a ton of work, and with that many miles we can blow some MM oil down the carb to help blow out any built up carbon too.
Change his oil, get some good plugs in, clean the carb and he will be good to go for another 100k.
Hope you can get it worked out. Its nice to get a chance to pay a Vet back once in a while for their service. He deserves it.

I'd be willing to help. I live in Camarillo, 10 minutes to simi valley. Grams offer is great and I can help get his bike to him. OR My bike needs the extact same work done but I don't wrench too good so I've located a shop in Ventura that is capable of doing the work, but of course they'd need to get paid so that effects things...so, whatever I can do to help please let me know. A while back a member here found an abandond puppy on the side of the road and RSC members joined in and donated some $. Maybe we can do the same for you and your family.

TWT, do you have a trailer? Or do you have access to one that can carry two bikes? If you can get the bike out here, I'll wrench on his and get you through doing the same stuff to yours at the same time.

Maybe something can get started toward collecting toward the cost of the repairs, or for gas money to take the bike to Gram. I would be willing to chip in a few bucks to help out a fellow Vietnam Vet. Roy
