carb heater 4 Years, 10 Months ago
hey guys....does anyone know what size socket will fit the carb heater so I can unscrew it and take the bowl off? I seem to have forgotten...please don't tell me an 8mm cuz I broke my 8mm socket the other day and that would mean I have to go buy a new one....no big deal, but just another thing I have to do.....lol Sorry I sound like a whiner but my bike has been cooped up all week long (one of the nicest/warmest weeks we have had) due to a broken clutch cable...it broke last Sunday, I had to order a new cable on Monday and they said that because of the 4th of july, it won't be in until friday....well it never came in. So being that Saturday was my B-day, me and few buds wanted to go for a cruise....well that didn't happen....so we ended up going to a strip club and partied like rock stars. Although a rock star would have his bike out on the main drags on his birthday....lol Anyway, back to the question....carb heater socket size?

Hey Beefcake

You don't need to take the heater off to drop the bowl.

Geez, missed that. - Happy Bday beefcake.

Depending on how it was last tightened up, the carb heater could stop the bowl from coming off. If it is off to one side it overlaps the bowl. Not sure what size socket, but you will need a deep one as the center pin on the heater comes up too high to get a good grip with the ratchet. When you put it back together make sure the flat connector does not overlap the bowl and you will not have this problem again.

That overlap is the way it came stock, so I always put it back that way. Just use a 10mm open end wrench to loosen the nut, and the tab pivots out of the way really easily. Probably OK to leave it in the rotated position when you tighten the nut...I'm just a creature of habit.

My "tab" has always blocked the bowl from coming off. I just loosen it and move it out of the way.BB
