wiring connects under the rear of the fuel tank where the seat is..check your connector there.. i believe it is blue.. you might get at it by removing just the seat but you might need to unbolt the tank to get at it..

the plug is a two wire green plug (at least on my 05) right at the back of the tank on the left. you will see it as soon as you take the seat off. but if the low fuel light is on...... oh you didnt say weather the needle does its little check thing when you turn the key. but i would put my money on a stuck float on the sending unit in the tank or its loose where it pivits. since the low fuel light does come on it is geting power.

edit: also if you just filled the tank the gauge takes a few miles to zero in but the light should have turned off right away.

more than likely it's the fuel sending unit in the tank, you can try cleaning it, sometimes that press on lock washer get loose too. Just be careful if ya clean, those little fingers can break real easy. It's about 50/50 if the cleaning will work or not. Mine after cleaning lasted about a month, new one lasted 4 months. I put a 50 ohm resistor in the connector to stop the blinking light, now it always shows 3/4 tank. that blinking can drive ya crazy at night I just keep an eye on my trip meter, I know how far I can go on a full tank.

hey that same problem happened to my 2006 roadstar while i was on a trip from oakland to santa cruz.
so i stop and i though it was a leaking gas or something, so the next gas was like 20 miles away and i was very worried so i turn the valve to reserv and then i check how much gas i had on the thank and it was almost full so i turned tha valve to normal flow and now what do you guys think it may be?? so when i turn the key the gauge goes all the way to full and come back to empty but the low gas beam start flashing can some one help!??
