BAK Question 4 Years, 10 Months ago
Its time to clean the filter, ordered the K&N Cleaning Kit. Cleaning seems straight forward, think even I can handle this . The oil bottle says to look on K&N web site for the amount of oil to reapply. Can't seem to find it.

Whats the recommended amount

The instuctions I have for oiling say to squeeze or if you have the spray to go along each pleat once only. let sit for 20 minutes. If you over oil it, -oil still dripping or draining after 20 minutes then wash and re-oil again. Hope this helps.
By the way if you are using spay hold it 3 inches away from the filter and use just enough to coat each pleat.

Post edited by: Greysnake, at: 2007/08/02 10:11

Ditto on the over-oiling.

All you need is a light coat, it should not be dripping wet otherwise it will get out all over your pipes.

Hey J

My BAK started spraying oil on my pipes the day I put it on. For the last month or so I've been running with the Raincoat on all the time. Doesn't seem to hurt a thing, will keep the filter cleaner longer, it's easier to clean than the filter, and the oil can'r get to the pipes. Something to think about anywho.

Hey Musky, when I really wash her I put the the rain coat on. I have forgotten a few times and ran with it with no problems. You may be on to something.

I had the dealer install the BAK last year, I didn't have a place to work on it at the time, but when I took it off for the cleaning it still had oil on the back side of the chrome face plate and the back plate as well. I have put close to 10,000 on her since it was installed so I am assuming the dealer really soaked it good. I was still getting oil on my pipes.... And they didn't install the power cone that was supplied either.....

If it wasn't for the guys on here I would still be getting half ass work done.
I can't thank you guys enough..

If you still have the vent tube attached to the back of the BAK then it's engine oil you're seeing not the K&N oil.

You're dumping motor oil back into the filter and it's getting sucked into the carb.

No ... it's not a bad thing .... it's an environmental thing.

I prefer not to redirect the blowby thru the carb and have redirected that vent tube under the bike.

So if I reroute the hose, I assume I need to plug the hole in the back plate?
