Floorboard extensions 1 Year, 1 Month ago
|
|
I made a set of extensions for my floorboards. I stripped an Allen screw trying to take it off. Any helpful hints on how to get that bugger out of there. Also I have yami big bars, has any one done this with them and how does it work out? They angle forward so I think it'll work. Lastly I'm a big ol dude, 6'1", 270. Do the extensions help make things more comfortable? I usually just keep my feet on my pegs. But I'll keep havin fun trying different things.

I have extensions and being 6'2" they helped alot. Only thing is they drag sooner when cornering hard but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

The extensions definitely help... for me anyway. Much more comfortable.
As for getting the screw out, either slot it where you can use a LARGE screwdriver and heat or take the head off with a grinder or large drill bit then you should have enough left when you take the floorboard off to get vicegrips on. Either way you need to use a torch on the screw. Mine came off pretty easily but I heated them up pretty good first.

I just put the extensions on with the big OEM bars, no problem, and yes, they are a lot more comfortable!

Like Bigboy says, you can slot it and use a screwdriver. You can get a impact driver from Harbor Freight for around 8 bucks. The kind you hit with a hammer. It will drive the fastener loose. If all else fails you can weld a 3/8 nut to it from the inside of the nut and screw it out with a wrench.

I have the extensions made by billjr from this forum.......they are very comfortable.
Heat the bolt.....there's loctite on it from the factory and those japs are stronger than we think.....they can really put some torque on a bolt lol just kidding

Same thing happened to me....I just removed one Allen bolt & spun my floor board back & forth a bit to break the other one loose, then used some vice grips to remove it completely. If you decide to lower your from end, be careful of master cylinder...it'll scratch your fender....found out the hard way!

Yesser!!! slotted the screw, gave it a couple good smacks, and heated it up. Those puppies came right out. Put the extentions on very easy. Add in time for a couple beers I think the whole thing took about 45 minutes. Looks real good, and it is much more comfortable. More of a natural position. Thanks for the good advise, I'll put up some pics soon.
