Helmets? 2 Years ago
Hey guys! I just picked up my first R* and wanting some opinions on some helmets. 1st off, I really like the old school look (ie. white walls, bobbers...etc.) I'm trying to find some good helmets for my wife and I and keep that retro styling. I'm a big advocate of safety so, I really don't want any novelty helmets. I'm thinking maybe some 3/4's, a modular. I will be doing some 1hr rides back and forth from work on a regular basis so, that may factor some as well. I don't "plan" on riding in the rain but, we all know it happens sometimes. My bike is black with white walls and setup full dressed. Any help/advise will be very appreciated.

Thanks,
throwback

I have been wearing the GMax GM55S. I tried a lot of helmets on and this one seemed the most comfortable to me.

Hello

Have a look a the the GMAX helmets. http://www.g-max.com/gmax/products.html
I owned 2. One is a half helmet and the other is a full face flip up.
I like both of them. They fit my head well and they are not very heavy.
Best of all they are easy on the pocket.

Paul

GMAX was my original line of thinking. Then I saw some really cool looking retro helmets which threw a wrench in my plans. Something like this one: http://www1.motorcyclehelmetsandjackets.com/mc_images/option/Z1R-JimmyRetro-Helmet-black-2013.jpg
One big thing is going to be comfort for my wife. As you all know, if the wife ain't happy...ain't nobody happy. She's used to the full face that she wore on our old crotch rocket but, wants something to match the bike style better. What do your wives, girlfriends, mistresses wear?

just spent the whole weekend with my melon inside of a brand new Rockhard 3/4 and I highly recommend it. Great fit and finish and reasonably priced and DOT but doesn't look it at all. rode it lots of wind and at high speed and no buffeting or lifting. Very nice helmet and price was good too.

I have a 3/4 with face shields for me and the wife and a half just to put around in. I used to ride with just a ball cap until I had my wreck. I end up rolling for some distance and still had my cap and sun glasses on. After that I started wearing my lids. We were on one ride and a passing horse trailer kicked up a rock that went over the windshield and over my head and hit the wife in the head between the eyes just under the helmet. I bought the wife her face shield the next day.

I hear that////
The wife always rides with the half shield down..
Says the bugs bounce off mine and end up on hers..
She doesnt like fresh meat on the fly..
Prefers slow grilled..lol
And hates the taste of mud and rocks.

For really cool old-school 3/4 style DOT helmets in nice metalflake it's hard to beat the Fulmer V2 line. Bad thing is, they refuse to sell on-line, so you have to buy them at a dealer. They are low-profile, like the old helmets of the 60's and 70's, so you avoid the 'bobblehead' look.
