first off TIA, i am new so sry if this is already been ask, but i see post of people getting 42-27 mpg i cant get over 40 and have went down to 36 at times. Mod include: v&H longshots, stock K&N filter, i have changed the plugs, the K&N is brand new, and new fuel filter, i experienced the lower mileage after all the plugs,fuel and air filter maintenance, the only thing i have not done is change the oil. i bought the R* in Feb 2011 i have put 1200 miles on so far, i do occasionally twist the throttle but just want to get the experts input thanks |

Twisting the throttle will make a difference with these bikes. If i run easy, no hard starts, 55-65 mph , country and town mixed , my average is 44-46. If I take a road trip on the interstate ...50 mpg. If Im riding around town, hammering on it, red line shifting, 35-37.  Your bike sounds fine. Probably get a little better with more miles / break in.

Welcome from North Florida!!!!! Mines an 03 and it averages 30 to 40 mpg. Just ride and enjoy.
