Re:mpg up and down 1 Year ago
first off welcome. now what year is your bike so we know if you have the 1600 of the 1700. yamaha say that the 1700 gets 38mpg so you are fine. some things to keep in mind the more city type riding, the harder riding, and riding 2 up will lower the mpg.also the more power mods and accessories you do/add the lower you mpg goes (i went from 48mpg to 33mpg)even tire pessure can effect mpg

Re:mpg up and down 1 Year ago
many differences can affect your mileage including improper tire inflation, my 1700, "04" averages 44mpg on the highway, and i'm not kind to it

I got 36 on my first full tank of the year. Threw sea foam in it and never hit 5th gear so she'd wake up from her winter slumber

From UT! My 2000 gets roughly around 38-42 MPG. I thought it was bad at first too, but its normal.

1st off, from beautiful N/E Georgia.
Next,if you're getting close to 40mpg,that ain't too bad (IMHO).
My '00 gets 33-35mpg(of course, I had it jetted way too fat), and I was ok w/that. I've recently jetted back to a 172.5 & changed to a Maxair slide needle. Haven't road tested yet.
Most of all, enjoy the ride !!

Re:mpg up and down 1 Year ago
I get a pretty honest 40 mpg. (07 Silverado) If you get above 38 mpg, you're about right. Something else to consider... recently I saw the results of a study on the 'accuracy' of gas pumps. They weren't all that accurate, and most had a significant amount of error. I wonder how in my state they get that little decal that they've been certified by some state auditor...

Went to Laughlin, NV. this past weekend,2-up.About 37 mpg's moderate wind.
Coming back strong head wind, got about 27 mpg's. Did 75 mph both ways.
Large Yami wind shield plus my RY* bag set up. Up and down elevation when you
ride around here in Vegas area...
