New Boots = Can't Shift = Need Help 1 Year ago
hi...

just picked up some nice boots for riding. Problem is i cannot get my toe under the shifter. I have floor boards and i do have the heel toe set up. I really never did like using my heel to shift. the boots are really not all that big at the toe. In fact i picked them because of this...

Can the shifter be tilted up at the toe end?

What have others done?

Thanks

yes sir it sure can be raised up for your taste. you could adjust the shift rod or undue where the shifter pivits and move it to your liking

Both the shifter and the brake pedal can be adjusted. The shifter lever is on a grooved/fluted spline. You can loosen the pinch bolt remove shifter adjust where needed and reinstall. I think the linkage should be okay without adjustment. The brake pedal has a threaded bolt with a lock nut. Loosen the lock nut and turn the threaded bolt. You'll see the pedal raise. Once in the right position tighten the lock nut.

Does your bike have the one or two piece shifter on it? If it has the two piece, take the heel shifter off and roll the toe shifter up to get clearance. If it has the one piece, cut the heel shifter off and rotate the toe shifter up. See, easy as pie.

Yes you can tilt it up at the front. remove the bolt holding the clinch assembly which is right under the shift rod going to the trans. Slide it off (back towards the motor), re-position to fit your needs.

You may have to remove the entire assembly from the frame which is 2 nuts towards the motor slightly ahead of the floorboard mount. Get to them from the bottom. This is the same bracket that holds the horn bracket on.

IF YOU HAVE BIG FEET: While you have the assembly off the bike just hacksaw off the rear shift arm or flip it around and use the rear for the front and hacksaw the other end off. Personal preference I feel that flipping the lever 180 degrees and using the rear as the front, keeps the shifter closer to the motor.

It is the one piece. I have been thinking on getting rid of the heel toe shift and just going with the toe. This is the first bike i have ever had that had a heel toe shifter. There is nothing natural, to me, trying to shift with my heel...
