Fuel Pump Relocation 1 Year ago
Im interested in relocating my fuel pump but the tech article isn't very clear on the steps or what I need to have. I was hoping someone who has done it before could highlight the major steps and what I will need to have.

thanks!

Re:Fuel Pump Relocation 1 Year ago
I went and got about 5' of 5/16 fuel hose and a about 10 black tywraps 12". I took off the tank and seat and side covers. Removed the fuel pump and bracket. I bent the bracket under right side cover and wrapped the fuel pump in the insulation that it was wrapped up in before. I then tywrapped it to the bracket under the right side cover really good. Probably have about 4 tywraps on it. I also rerouted the hose from tan to back bone and went in in middle of sode covers and to pump under right cover. Then I routed the line from pump to carb up to backbone and over rear cyl and down to carb. I also put the rubber covering and springs off old lines where ever I thought the lines might rub on hot engine on new line. I put the fuel filter from tank to pump under tank near back bone on top of rear cyl. I also put a peice if rubberized insulatin like from water pipe inslulation between filter and valve cover for heat insulation. You might want to pick up an pack of small hose clamps also.

It sounds hard but take your time and route the lines and think about heat and you will be ok. It is self explanitory when you look at it.

If you have a dremmel you can cut the choke holder portion of the bracket off and drill a hole on the cut end and mount it on the bolt for the rear of tsnk on left side. You will have to reroute the choke line over the rear cyl also to do this. It is very handy there and easier to get to. Just have to watch not to touch hot engine but you will get use to that.

I like the mod and have had no problems with it. This is the second R* I have done this to.

Respects
Mark

Re:Fuel Pump Relocation 1 Year ago
I bought a relocation kit from somewhere... waste of money. Buy yourself some 5/16 fuel line, clamps, spot tie and do it the way bassmar did. your gonna have to do an electrical splicing too, but that was many years ago and I Cant Remember Shyt Take your time, be patient and try to find instructions from an old relocation kit. Shoot, there may even be instructions on line somewhere. I will look to see if I still have it laying around. I have a tendency of filing that crap.

Scotto,

Sounds good. Barons has a relocation kit for $80 I figured it was a waste. It would be great if you still had the instructions. thanks alot!

I got a Baron's relocation kit off of ebay for $47. Easy to do....instructions really pretty clear and easy to follow. There are guys that have relocated it to along the back bone. With that mod you don't need to splice and of the electrics. I believe fireman 922 did that mod.....send him a PM & I'm sure he'll help you with info.

Re:Fuel Pump Relocation 1 Year ago
Your Welcome. If you need more help with it just email me or PM me.

I could not see paying for the kit when you can buy most of it on your own. I think they include a different bracket in the Barons kit to mount the fuel pump on if not mistaken.

But if you bend the front tab on the bracket that is already there you can use it. You will have to play around with the fuel pump location for the front cover to fit over it also.

Scotto is right I forgot about the splice for the fuel pump but its just 2 wires. I cut the plug off and added extra wire and used the same plugs. I actually added too much wire and just rolled up the excess under the seat next to battery. Doesnt bother anything.
Good luck and have fun

Respects
Mark
