If you can afford it, buy a manual. There is also one you can get free for you computer. I'll try and get the link for you.
In this website, you'll notice in the "
Main Menu" a section marked "
Articles". Read all the articles as you'll find a wealth of information on how to do mods on your bike. In the "
Articles - Exhaust - AIS" section you can find articles on the how to remove the
AIS (air injection system). The AIS is between the frame, just above the oil filter. The Calif models also have the charcoal canister that I believe can also be removed.
If you put on aftermarket exhaust without removing the AIS you will get a lot of popping. I can't address the dealer's comment but I put on the ProPipe and only needed to tweak the
PMS a little bit. I put on the
BAK later and the bike needed to be rejetted; it would not run without bucking and popping.
Also go to the RoadStar Riders Forum (the link is in the "
Main Menu" ). You will find a ton of info from people more knowledgeable than me.
