Riding Groups?? 11 Months, 4 Weeks ago
Anyone have recommendations for groups to ride with in the Mid Missouri area. Most of my rides are solo. Would like to find a group of riders or club to meet up with from time to time. Need something I don't have to make huge commitment to. Want to find a group that rides regularly and be able to go when I can. One thing I am looking into is a ride from Kingdom City,MO to Columbia, MO escorting WWII vets on their way back from the "Honor Flight". The "Honor Flight" is a program that flys WWII vets to DC to see their memorial. The bus that brings them back is escorted by HPD and group of riders. Thought this would be real cool. Not a lot of these guys left. An absolutely remarkable generation.

See if Kai chimes in here.. You could also look into the PGR and see if they can recommend anyone in the area.

Re:Riding Groups?? 11 Months, 4 Weeks ago
..

I call a friend if I feel like having company on a ride.
Usually I just call ahead and swing by if he is going to be out in his shop or planning to ride too.
Then we usually check on the next friend, and if he is free to go, we ride out to meet him.
Or we all meet up and leave from a restaurant or something.
Most of my friends are an hour ride from me, and each other, so we all get plenty of riding done.

Too many MC groups are pretentious, and self righteous, and '____ Riding Clubs' usually have assholes with agendas that they won't eliminate, and these 'organizers' create way to much drama arguing over 'Just the right reason' to ride for, when all ya gotta do is go.
If you wanna give charity, have someone carry a sack or a jar to donate into, and if you don't trust them to donate it, what the hell are ya ridin with um for?

PGR escorts are about the only bullshit free events that I will participate with strangers in, but I still get my teeth set on edge at these when 'biker dress-up posers' show up who use the ride as an excuse to validate their badass biker image. These people should dress in a way that shows respect for the fallen Vet, not in their best biker costume. At the least, a nice pair of jeans, polished shoes and a black or dark dress shirt. And absolutely no patch and pin covered vests or jackets, jesus that pisses me off, show some restraint and give respect to a Vet and his family!

If you really want riding friends ...
If you meet someone on a solo ride that you feel might make a good riding friend, get his/her phone or e-mail, and whenever you go on a ride with a definate destination, call or e-mail to see if they want to join in.

This method will allow you to ride 100% bullshit drama free, with or without companions.
And after all, isn't that what the ride is supposed to wash away in the first place?

There are some guys on here that seem like they might make potential 'riding friends', I met up with Husker Bob and Mrs Husker for a few hundred miles on the BRP, and they were both fun to converse and ride with and we had a really great ride.
I have and will call them again.
Just take your time and avoid anyone who 'dresses up' to go for a ride, and you should have a circle of riding friends, that may make your other friends seem shallow by comparison, in no time.

Tstar, if you want to ride with a mission...I would contact the Patriot Guard Riders. They have a very large membership in Missouri and we sometimes ride as friends without anything but enjoying the ride and each others company. Above my sig pic are links to the PGR and another group I ride with, the Wind Therapy Riders. Click on both and contact them, I definitely enjoy their company...Kai

The Wind Therapy Riders are about to hold their annual ride in Mountain Home, Arkansas during 13-17 June. We just gather from all parts of the US and Canada. We just gather, eat and ride, sleep and do it all over again...In Sep we are gathering in Ashland Missouri ( Between Columbia and Jefferson City ) for the weekend and just ride the Missouri Roads and find out of the way places to eat...its our 911 Memorial and we camp at a friends Farm in Ashland and stay in Motels in Jeff City for the weekend...You are welcome to particpate if you wish.

Special Note: Since you're from Columbia, I can introduce you to Roaddogg, he owns a farm in Ashland, MO where we do our 911 Memorial in Sep, its a weekend you won't forget...

Groups suck, generally as a whole, they scare people...IE: Bully....if you have to ride in a group, ride drag, that way you can leave ...if your afraid to ride alone, stay home with the kids

I have been a member of Star Touring and Riding Association for about 5 years now. We have a great group of people and ride regularly. It is not without its politics and personality clashes, but generally a good group and some good friends. Check them out.

I appreciate everyone's input. I've been reading up on everyone's recommendations. Kai, We'll have to meet up in September. I ride down to Ashland lots when out for a ride. I ride from Columbia, to Jeff City to Herman and back quite often. Ride along the South side of MO River going North side coming back. Like to go by the Nuclear Reactor in Fulton, MO on my way back to Columbia to see if it makes my bike run faster. Jona, my wife would enjoy me staying home more with the kids.

03 Roadstar $5000.
Chrome, pipes, modifications Approximately $1,000,000
Time alone on your bike priceless.

It's nice to have some time with friends, too.
