The bulb is an H4ST, for our application. There is an H4 that is a standard headlight and the H4ST, the ST being a stronger version. I am sure there is a more technical difference, but if you compare an H4 to an H4ST you will be able to see the difference. Both will fit and function the ST should hold up better.

That's the bulb I am in the process of putting in. Be careful with the bezzel screws. They are as soft as butter. Me being the dummy...stripped one side, so I can't take it out. Wondering what to do at this point. Might have to dremmel a divit to fit a flat head or something.....

Not to hijack...but any thoughts?

I picked one up a couple weeks ago and right on the package it lists both numbers: 9003/HB2 & H4.
The silverstar is a big improvement over The standard 9003.

I did the same thing a month ago. Thought they had put red locktight on those things too I just drilled the head off and went to Ace and got another screw. Not an axate match with the other one but it's on the other side so you can see them at the same time so nobody will notice it.

I replaced mine with a brighter SilverStar (can't remember the part number, but what I'm seeing here seems correct). Once I get home, I'm going with the 7" LED replacement. I put them on my Jeep (HUGE difference) and we have them on the HMMV's, MaxPro's, Cougars, and just about anything else with a 7" lamp around here (Afghanistan). The route clearance vehicles use the LED's ALL OVER their rigs, so they're really good on the illumination side of things and they don't burn out. Down side... cost. They are EXPENSIVE! However, you only have to buy one and unless you beat the hell out of it, it should last thousands(?) of times longer than a regular bulb.

Yep I got my head light bulb at an autoshop down here called Supercheap Auto. Not sure of you have them in the states? Anyway cost me $14.00. Yamaha wanted over $60.00.

Erbman02 - thanks for the tip about the billberry, I am going to try and get a hold of some. Other than my bike my other major interest is astronomy, and night vision is very important for that. The better your night vision is, the easier it is to see fainter objects through the telescope.

D@mn, Frenchy, you're not kidding!

I haven't thought about JC Whitney in years! I remember those old catalogs had all kinds of interesting stuff in them. Spent many a teenage afternoon wandering through them.

I put one of these bulbs in my bike and I noticed that the light is a lot hotter after being on for a while. Is this normal?

Just be patient with it, info I read years ago said it could take 3, 4 weeks to help

Dang Neil, now I got another reason to hit the alternative drug store. The meds for my shoulder are raising havoc with other parts of me lately, as well as being $$$. Thanks.
