Starter Relay Stuck 10 Months ago
I started up to ride home the other day, hit <play> on the iPod for tunes, and rolled out. At the first stop-light I heard the starter still spinning.

It eventually stopped (I assume once the battery drained), and wouldn't start up again when I arrived home.

A) Why did it happen?
What do I need to repair now?
C) How do I keep it from happening again?

Thanks in advance,
DKLAZ

well, i cant tell you why it happend but if it was my ride the relay would be in the trash and a new one put on. $25 is way cheaper than a starter. more than likely the relay just wore out.tha is unless you button in the controlls got stuck. not the black part we push in but the internal pieces may have stuck closed too. thats the 2 places i would look first

Replace it with the Warrior relay which is heavier. The P/N is here somewhere, I just forget where.

Replaced all 3 cables (from starter to relay, relay to battery and ground) today. Having some starting issues so I figure I'd start there. Probably have to go after the relay next. Probably go with the Ford one. Left the original cable in from starter just for giggles.

Re:Starter Relay Stuck 8 Months, 1 Week ago
OK...starter relay stuck open again yesterday...ran the batter DEAD! I picked up the Ford replacement to install tonight, and I can't figure the connection. The OE starter has two big posts, then a quick-connect harness between them. The Ford version only has two big posts, then two bigger ones. Is the OE one serving a dual-purpose with the quick connect harness, so I leave it in place or that, and ADD the Ford one to run the battery thru to the starter?

Thanks in advance,
DKLAZ

PS - it seems like it only sticks open when the battery is getting a little tired (could be the AZ heat), It's going the be 106 degrees again here tomorrow!

it's not a plug and play type thing using the Ford relay. It also requires another relay to turn on the Ford relay from what I can recall when Pat came up with this design. I think it also has to be hard wired, so the stock connectors would be cut off and wires soldered.
