Mama started out on a vstar 650 custom, never have ridden a day in her life before. It only took her 6 months to come to me and say "I need a bigger bike"
That being said, with in a week we had her on a vstar 1100. She has made it hers now, with pipes, chrome, and other toys. She took the T3RG class at a local bike shop and has never had a problem. Not one broken tail light or clutch lever. A year and a hald later, she has logged over 2k miles.

Get her in the motorcycle education class and let her decide what feels right. She will no doubt make the right choice for her. Just my .02 anyway

started with this

Ended up with this

Thanks guys for the info. Tim I will message you when bikes blues and bbq gets closer that sounds like a blast. Bushman we have been looking at the 950 and they are nice, I just got 1 hard headed woman lol. She has riden ny uncles 1100 and thinks the bike is just not what she wants. She can through it around no prob. I think it may b something I have not done to the roadie but I might have talked her down to a 1300 but kinda doubt it. I will probably through her out on it this coming weekend and see how she does. With the way she rode the 1100 I think she is just scared of the R* because she knows its bigger.

Side note we are good bushman how about yourself?

Rode to BB&BBQ last year, the wife is planning on going this year, she doesn't ride, so we'll trailer up. Left here on Wed last year, hope to leave here Tuesday this year.

My wife started out with a Suzuki Savage 650, that bike weighed about 350 pounds and I loved riding it short distances. Had a ton of power from that little thumper motor, but was light enough that you could do anything with it. She learned very well on that bike, but couldn't ride it more than 30-40 minutes because it transferred all the bumps and vibrations right into her. So, I bought her a Vstar 650 and she loves it, she's put a Mustang seat on it, V&H Shortshots, jetted the carbs. It's a nice bike. She's put over 2000 miles on it since May. It fits her well and she is 5'8".

That being said, she has only moved my R* in the front yard, the weight of it concerns her (not the power)and keeps her from riding it. She feels that it is simply too heavy. She is really interested in a Raider. I know they are almost as heavy as our R* but, their balance makes them feel lighter. We'll see if she gets one down the road or if she becomes more comfortable with the R*

Like Rayjay said, lower it.

My girlfriend is 5'4" and didn't even come close to touching her feet to the ground on my R*. Ended up doing the flip and grind on the rear and lowered the front 1.5". With the stock seat it was tad too high still so I laid a low profile seat from another bike on it and she was able to stand it up and lean it side to side without dropping it she even held it up for as a while without her hands on the bars. She was all excited about having a bike to ride until I put the apes on it which was too high for her. Now she's wanting me to lower my heritage for her until she gets her a Street Bob done the way she wants it.

Hope she's a tall girl for the Street Bob, every woman I've seen on one can't park it. Sure you can lower it but then you got one rough riding bike. My best friend has a lowered Street Bob, I've rode it once and I'll never ride that goddam thing again. I'd say a lowered Heritage or Deluxe would be the right way to go...or a Road Star

Well the wife has decided I need to get off my rear and get the roadie ready for her to ride and go buy me a new 1. Good deal for me! Anyhow the thing seems to be she can't get comfortable enough with the weight of the bike so she us thinking trike or a sidecar. Looking for pros and cons of both. Thanks guys.

My wife started on the 650 but found the R* just too heavy of a bike. So I triked the bike out. I feel much safer knowing she won't drop the bike. My wife loves to ride her trike and she's all of 5'2" and will get out there on the superslab and do 80mph with me all day.

Hardone2get I may b bothering you if we decide to trike this 1 lol. But my wife is about 5'8 and built well if I can just find a way for her to get comfy on the r* I could just go buy another which would b the best thing. The cost of the 3 options run about the same as far as I can tell. A used bike or side car is about 5k from what I found and I think I could do the trike for probably the same. Decisions Decisions
