headlight rattle 9 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Guys,
I did the research, read the tech tips, found something maybe new.
I have an 08 roadie silverado, 'S' model, with the light bar.
The damn rattle in the headlight that just started was finally found by my son tonite.
we worked on the bike for an hour or so, finally determined that the headlight rests on the
extra light bar. there is a minute gap between the bottom of the headlight and the light bar.
at certain rpms in each gear, the light bar shook and the headlight shook, rattling against
each other. for now, we put some thin rubber strips between the light bar and the bottom of the
headlight. I don't like the solution. the bike has 500 miles on it, thinking of asking the dealer
to do something about this when I take it in for first service.

wanted everyone to know, in case anyone wants to use this solution that we came up with.
please comment or ask questions if you wish.

Kevin:

When you're riding the bike and hear the vibration, can you get rid if it if you place your left hand on the headlight? If so, I think there are a few posts here on how to get rid of it. The vibration might be coming from the headlight mounting vs the two parts vibrating against each other.

But, if placing a rubber layer between the two parts makes it stop, you might have a different issue than most.

Mine was/is both. I was having the rattle and stuck a couple of pieces of Velcro between them and that seemed to solve the problem but it has started up again and a can grab it with my left hand while riding at the rattle will stop

yup, read all the posts, tried that. It was indeed coming from the headlight area, when riding I placed
my hand on the headlight and the noise disappeared. So, first thing we did was follow the tech tip
and put foam vinly insulation around the outside perimiter of the light. no luck. then, wrapped entire
wire harness with tape and secured to inside of light. no luck. then, put foam into the two tabs
on top of headlight. no luck. then, put carpeting into headlight, behind wire harness. no luck.
finally, my son noticed, during engine revving, the gap and vibration between headlight and light bar.
