You guys are kidding right??? do you really believe you are safer without a helmet??
Put your helmet on and have your wife lightly tap it with a baseball bat.. now take it off and repeat... Okay lets go riding...Maybe she knocked some sense into your head!!

O.K. Butch,
Don't tell the wife to hit you inna head with a baseball bat.
Don't tell the pavement and obstacles to hit you inna head
when you fall offa the scooter.

Wise choices... But Still Choices.

I wear the bucket every time since last year's wreck (minor),
but I made that decision. My other option was
to give up riding.

I believe in freedom of choice! Seatbelt laws, are they necessary, they do save lives! I have been using them since before it was a law. Helmet laws, no doubt your ole noggin is better off bouncing off the pavement with a helmet than without.. can't argue with that. But it should be your choice... I was wearing a helmet and a five point Hooker harness in a very violent airplane crash. Wish I would have saved the helmet so I could have taken a pic of it to show the beating it took. I came out with out any head injuries.. I don't argue about helmet laws.. I ride with out alot... But know it is not the safest thing to do... But what the hell I haven't exactly led a safe life..
Almost 100% what ag said (I've never flown a plane).
The discussion is about the law and not the safety of helmets.
We should have the choice, just like we should have the choice with seatbelts.
Statistics don't mean squat. I wear a helmet 99% of the time and in the car my seatbelt all the time.
I do find it offensive though that the govt. feels I'm not intelligent enough to make those decisions on my own.

I agree it should be a choice not a law. However a lot of motorcycle accidents involve the head and a helmet could save your head from a lot of trama.I work in a hospital and a great deal of motorcycle accidents have head injuries.I was in a car accident and my seat belt saved my life but I have a friend whose belt caused way more damage. So I say let us do what we want and we will take the chance. Period. Ken

Statistics or not, I just don't need some politico who has never ridden a bike tell me what I have to do. It's my life, my choice.......period!!!

I did not break my collar bones, because I was not wearing a helmet in one crash. Went over the top of bars at approx 20, 25mph, instinct, I tucked and rolled doing a double somersault and landed up on my feet. A helmet would not have allowed me to tuck my head, and would have caused both collar bones to break, and possible spinal damage.

DAMN Neal! Talk about survival instints.
I never remembered the time between 'accepting that I'm
going to go down' and sitting up on the pavement when it's over.
Guess my brain chooses not to record the airborne and
tumbling part.

Yep same here. A few weeks ago I took a ride to New Hampshire and after I watched 5 or 6 guys on bikes without helmets go by. I pulled over took mine off and loved every minute of it. It was great that no one even thought twice about it. It's normal there.

The last time my bike was down was 1992. I've got a good run going but if I crash and hit my head hard, I'd rather be dead than a vegetable. And that's all I've got to say about that.

Hey H-Bob! I agree that I'd like the choice here in NC as well. The only problem with your theory is that after a high speed wreck, wearing a helmet only increases you chances of having a open casket! All the bouncing around is going to do enough other (internal) damage to take you or me out!
