Like everyone else reading this post I'm kinda concerned also . I've tried to loosen the bracket next to the frame before I remove the cover and darn bolts (8mm & 6mm) will not crack loose, must be impacted on or something ! And too boot I broke my Kobalt allen wrench tool as the plastic cracked and my T-handle set just don't budge it either, can't get enough behind it. I tried the cresent wrench on the allen wrench trick for added leverage and the wrench just twisted around the allen and I was afraid to strip the bolt hole so I quit My '01 R* has 21k, the belt don't move sideways and the belt seems good also, so for now I'll just pay attention and keep it in mind till I have the shop I use from time to time look at it for me. Probably when I install a new rear tire here in the soon future.

EP, The first time I took mine off I used a punch and a hammer giving the bolt a good wack in the center to break the lock tight. If you feel comfortable with that you might give it a try. I also used a allen socket with a breaker bar. Just a thought.

Martin.

I dropped her off at the dealer today , they are trying to help me.
Yamaha wanted it at the dealer and the dealer is going to call Yamaha ?!?!?!
Service manager said , may need the factory rep to come to take a look too .
I'll keep you guy's posted as to what happens next , but I'm sure it will take
a while , they were very busy

Here is a question to ask them morons. This is how I got my parts
How does a nut, that is supposedly tq'ed at the factory, and the nut has a locking mechanism, either by a bent tab or a punch, get loose?

And as per service manual, there is no maintenance on said nut. Plus, it is behind a cover so one cannot see it if there is an issue.

Answer, either the factory did not tq the nut to spec, or they did not lock down the nut properly. either way, it falls on the fault of factory screw-up.

I posed this question to the dealer, and with my answer, and he agreed 100%. I then called customer service, they in turn said they would check with dealer, since I knew my dealer agreed, I didn't see an issue.
This all took place while bike was in for tranny recall on a Thursday. Dealer so happened to have a pulley in stock, Yamaha over nighted shaft, bike picked up on Saturday at noon. had 47k on bike at the time, and well before a belt would need to be replaced at the 60k recommended time frame. so they couldn't blame the dealer either for messing with the nut for belt replacement.

Greysnake........thanks, was actually thinking the allen socket which I think I gots in my tool box or I'll buy a set. I did whack the bolt head with a hammer but didn't think of using a punch in the center. I'll try it next few days and see.

Re:Circle jerk from YAMAHA !!! 1 Year, 8 Months ago
Erbman02 I had read your earlier post about what you did and I did use your advice

BUT there is that word !!!! I had gone to the dealer first with the pulley , nut & washer and a few pic's of the damage to the shaft . He also agreed that it should not have come loose but recommended
I call Yamaha first . I go home call Yamaha and they want the bike at the dealer ??? Call the dealer
and he said bring it down which I did today and the service manager said he would give Yamaha a call.
This service manager has not seen this problem ever but he does seem willing to try and help .
Like I said, he said Yamaha might want the regional factory rep to have a look so he asked me to leave the bike.
The time these things take is what is going to kill my fall riding season. Being in CT. the season is short enough already. The other is I NEVER LET ANYONE WRENCH MY BIKE'S but me
The mechanic's don't look old enough to drive Now I'm gave away how OLD I AM .
If Yamaha pays for it I'll go for it.......

Pulled cover off when got back home lastnight and found nut to be tight, bent other tab over and marked nut with black sharpie for next inspection in the future. Lock tab was real soft metal, don't know if it will hold much, thanks guys for the info.
