Has anybody researched using roller lifters? There should be some that will fit. The only thing you might need to make would be a collar to keep them from turning in the lifter bore.
I only know of one set of roller lifters that is out there, not sure if he sold them. not cheap, about 1600 bucks, and only made for the 1600 engines. They were a speedstar accessory, but stopped being made yrs ago. Best bet to check around is either Patrick Racing, or Barons customs.

They're still there at $1350.00.

It would be nice if someone offered a roller setup with the stock profile. Be a nice choice for some of the older bikes.

Can't use roller lifter on a tappet cam so you would have to get new cams. That could be a good thing! Getting cams with a more aggressive profile and longer lift and duration could be a big performance boost. I know Dodge had roller lifters in the 1988 318 cu. in. engine. If the outside diameter is the same as the flat tappet lifters that could be source number one.

Don at LD custom wurks offers 2 different cam regrinds, one is for use with stock pistons the other with HC pistons. From what I have read the one for stock pistons will keep the TQ up till mid 4k rpm's. At approx. 3300rpm Tq starts it's downhill slope for stock, keeping the Tq up along with the HP increasing at those rpm's sounds good to me. he gets 250 with exchange of old cams

I think the Road Star rollers have an extension down one side to engage the decompression pin. Takes special lifter blocks also.

The speedstar setup was basically sold in seperate pieces, but you needed several pieces for it to work together. Their Lifter blocks had a lock bar inside to keep the lifters locked from spinning. Since the lifter blocks were taller, you also needed their shorter pushrod tubes. The shorter push rods, then of course the cams and lifters. They also had the new valve spring setup for the heads
My 01 has the complete speedstar setup. I also bought another complete setup minus the cams and it took me close to 6 yrs to finally find the new matching speedstar cams.

Wow!! thats a pretty nice looking set up there, and to think i have now spent more than that on repairing my bike back to standard for the 2nd time now
Just a note for anybody reading this post in the future that might have a similar problem with their bike i would definately check those o-rings on the oil tranfer tube for any faults and change them just to be safe when i was looking for the part numbers i noticed that they now have a "superceeded part number" I would think that the only real reason to superceed them would be if they had become a "known issue" to Yamaha and that they have now rectified the problem with a better design?
O-RING 93210-08003-00 (replaces 93210-08006-00)
O-RING 93210-07540-00 (replaces 93210-07003-00)
