This thread discusses the Content article: California AIS Removal (99-03)

Is this not the gas tank vent loop? What has it got to do with the air injection system?? AIS injection air into the exhaust port to remove unburned gases in the exhaust system. The gas tank loop collects vapors from the gas tank and sends to the carburetor via a canister, they are not even connected.

You are correct.

I believe most guys remove the canister for the same reason, and at the same time, as when they remove the AIS.

I made a comment on this, but I guess this is the actual thread.

This says "offroad use only" is that just a disclaimer? Is this going to cause me problems with the DMV at all? You other cali guys done this mod?

California does not currently require smog inspections for motorcycles. When/if they do it could be a problem. Its illegal to remove smog devices anywhere in the US, so this is a 'at your own risk' modification. If you choose to do it you might want to keep your old parts in case you have to put it all back on. Therefore the disclaimer in the article. It is not officially recommended or endorsed by anyone, including the author. It is for informational purposes only, as are all articles on the Clinic.

This is a gearhead's site, and we want folks to share information, not risk. What you choose to do with that information is, of course, your decision to make.

That said, there sure are a lot of 'off road' roadies in CA

Uh, I guess my Roadie is full on off-roader then. Between the AIS and canister removal and the pipes and the intake I'm pretty sure I qualify. I am using less gas though!

Remember all of our modifications should be for speed....I mean, safety.
