Clutch cover 1 Year, 7 Months ago
Ok todays the big day. Putting in my Barrnett clutch spring.
I'm stuck. SOS...
This might be a stupid question but I'm prone to breaking stuff just because I may have missed a screw or something and I don't want to pry to hard.
The clutch cover won't come off. I had a heck of a time getting the Timing access cover off so I am assuming the clutch cover is going to be hard too.
Is there a trick to getting this cover off besides making sure I didn't miss a screw.
maybe a big mallet hammer

you might want to try a taping on it with rubber mallet

Getting it off is the easy part...

Make sure when you put it back on, the teeth on the pull lever are pointed toward the rear of the bike. You should see the post turn as the cover slides back on. If it goes on hard, something is wrong...

Takes a little playing with, but I know you can do it...

I got the pressure plate on. I also popped out the bearing that came with the pressure plate and put a better one in. right now i'm stuck with removing the gasket. Its hard, brittle and won't come off. This may take a few weeks

Greenpus keep adding the play by play if you would please. Gonna be doing the same thing in the next couple of weeks and there's no better teacher than the last one who did it

What a PITA. Taking every thing off wasn't that hard and putting every thing back together was not that hard. The freaking old gasket was baked on the engine side and it took me forever to get it off. I finally gave in and started using a razor blade to get it off. I was very careful so not to damage the metal. The cover itself is all chrome and it was very easy to peel off the gasket that stuck to the cover.
Just one suggestion. When you pull the old pressure plate off, make sure the clutch plates don't stick to the pressure plate and fall off

Rich

that tidbit of info helped a great deal. Cover went on very easily and engaged the teeth properly.
thanks!
