AIS..pull or not 6 Months, 1 Week ago
I've got a '05 Midnight Silverado. The bike had V&H longshots on it when I bought it. The bike isn't popping or backfiring that I have noticed. It seems that most owners are pulling their AIS systems off. The mod seems easy and cheap to do. Is there any reason to leave it on? I understand the elbows get bent up in the removal process. Any advice/tricks/kit info etc.? My bike does seem to cough once and a while when I blip the throttle. Will removing the AIS aid that? Just fishing for info guys....
Thanks, Jim

If it ain't broke don't fix it. Seems it like your after market pipes most don't but yours may be the exception.

I took it off to get rid of the crap load of hoses....plus we have a couple extra hoses and such here in CA. Cleans it up nice.
Yup I know it has to do with the emissions system but until they put fuel injection AND a catalytic converter on it who we kidding?

The fuel injected models have cats in them. One person has already written about the trouble he had drilling out the exhaust on his.

rip it out, it's dead weight, and good to learn wrenching
if you arnt a seasond mechanic, cause you cant really hurt anything either.

you have pressed in elbows on that one? not bolted to the jug like i thought that year was?
you get a block off kit online, you have to cap the vaccume tap on the top of the intake manifold.

taking off the tank makes that job easier, and looong bent nose pliers helps reach.

i sweated copper caps to the pressed in elbows on my 03. held up for years and nobody notices.

If you have pressed in elbows, some body on here recommended 45 calber shell casings. I used them and they worked great and look good also. The stock elbows are hell to pull out. Also if you do use them it does make it easier to install them, if you freeze the casings and have your engine warm when you tap them in goodluck.

I have spare .45 ACP casings in Brass and Nickle. If you need a couple, let me know and I can send them. (You have to use ACP which are the shorter casing).
