Summer of 1978. When my Dad agreed to take a look at a used Yamaha 750D with me. That's when I knew he'd say yes.

When I had some extra money, and above many other choices I paid off my bike first.

My dad rode and when I was old enough to hold onto his back is when I started to ride. He bought me a mini bike when I turned 4 and I've been riding ever since. 45 yrs now and hopefully many more to come....

Some of my first memories are riding with my dad on the tank of his Honda 750 with the big fairing and the hard saddle bags it was a metallic gold. I remember falling asleep when we rode. They quit riding not too long after but it always stayed with me. I got rehooked about at around 20 when A guy let me take his sporty for a spin and as soon as it fired up I was determined to get my own bike. I had a 1100 VSTAR till a old man turned left in front of me.The bike was maybe 3 months old. 6 months later I got my roady and been riding her for almost 10 years.

For me it goes back as far as I can remember. I grew up out in the country and there were a lot of kids with mini bikes, except me. I got my first mini bike in 1966, a basket case for 30.00. I remember this very well because I was in the hospital for about 2 months prior to that because I had third degree burns from a gasoline fire (another thread) and people would give me a dollar or two when they came to see me. A young lady that lived across the street had a basket case mini bike she wanted to sell for 30.00. My oldest brother told me if I got half the money, he would pay the other half. I came out of the hospital with 17.00. I rebuilt it with the help of my dad and away I went. My first real motorcycle came in 1969. I have been riding something with an engine on it ever since. I got my first big motorcycle when I was around 15 (1971) I guess. A Panhead with a rocker clutch. The shifter came up through a shifter cage mounted on the left side of the tank. It also had the spark advance/retard on the left grip. Now that's old school. I wish I had that now. I guess I always knew I would ride one way or another. I have ridden a lot of miles on a lot of different brands. Ducati, Triumph, HD, Yamaha, Honda, any many more. Heck, I still have an old BSA 650 Lightning out at the ole home place where I grew up. My nephew was riding it, but it has been sitting for about a year now. Might be a cool project to restore, but if I am going to spend money, I want to spend it on my R*.
